I Didn't *Not* Like It....

Watched the first Thor movie last night. It was...not terrible? But certainly flawed. I'm unsure if that comes down to the direction or the script, but I suspect it was probably a combination of both. I love Kenneth Branagh in all his egocentric glory, but I don't believe I will ever understand why he was put in charge of this film. On the ( Read more... )

I have a lot of friends who base their criticism solely on the fact that he never wears a helmet in the movie. Because vikings always have helmets.

I found Thor/Jane incredibly dull the first go round and was all set to be ready for more of the same in the sequel, so I was pleasantly surprised by how much I didn't hate the fact that seemed to have doubled or tripled Jane's airtime in it. I guess because it's one of the few movies where Natalie Portman seemed to be having fun and I think I can count the number of movies where I've found that to be true on one hand.

That said, the original Thor movie couldn't quite figure out what it wanted to be, so I just took it as a "behold, a villain is born!" story with some Darcy thrown in for funsies.
