Now, how does one go through life without touching anything? I happen to already know my own strength, but this is a bit ludicrous. My brother has also gone completely nutters.

It's not so much picking up things as it is touching things. Like shoving instead of just touching. Haven't tried gloves, though.

Have an example: I touched my brother on the shoulder and he shot forward like I'd slapped him on the back really hard.
