One of the first rules of thumb back in the days of Ancient Greece essentially boiled down to "Leave the virgin goddesses alone." Men who tried coming on to them usually ended up in very ugly circumstances, assuming they even survived in the first place. It was true Athena wasn't quite as bad as some, but he still remembered tales of men struck blind or even flayed alive for getting too close to her for her comfort. And Asclepius had taken her on a date. Kissed her hand. Hinted at the possibility of fathering a child for her. To make matters worse, she was his teacher, mentor, and one of his favorite aunts ( ... )

Thankfully and luckily for him, Athena was much more relaxed now. Not just because she couldn't get away with flaying a person and poking out their eyes, but just because being mortal had made it much harder for her to get upset. Plus now, well men hit on her. Not all the time of course. If she blinded everyone who had said something nice to her like that? She'd have most of the male population dead. Generally she told them to bugger off, but that was because they not just hit on her, they hit on every woman who walked their way. She had no patience for that ( ... )

"Honestly? Rather glad you aren't furious with me." He guided her to the parlor, and gestured for her to sit.

"I'm not quite sure where to start with all this..." He sighed. "I suppose an apology is in order. I assure you, I have always held you in the greatest respect, as a teacher, as an aunt, as a goddess. I would not have been who I was without you, and I would never dream of acting untoward with you. Honestly, I forgot myself... and, somehow, you as well. Things would be easier if we were just Galen and Mercedes, but we aren't, and never will be." He shook his head.

"That said... I did speak truly with you that day. You are one of the finest women I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, and I do enjoy your company. Any man--anyone, for that matter--should be honored to be with you. I suppose what I'm asking is... what do you want from... this?"

That was probably to be expected. Following him into the parlor, she sat down and figured to just let him go ahead ( ... )
