It has come to my attention that my blog posts recently have all been about video games. My good friend Josh plays a mean A Boy and His Blob, but now claims that this blog is, from his standpoint, "written in code." So the next few posts are geared specifically for you, Josh. I'll try to keep the video game chatter in check.

I am skeptical of the notion that it's possible to reconstruct culture and lifestyle along with language using the comparative method. Okay, there are a few examples that the previously invoked Holland has come up with, like showing that a stock phrase "imperishable fame" was an important and oft-cited-in-poetry concept to the PIEans and many of their immediate ancestors (including Achilles, which I thought was rather neat ( ... )
