I'd recommend the Supercard mini-SD over the M3 purely because of the price. Of course, if you've got any spare regular SD or CF memory lying around you should get the appropriate card, but the mini-sd is notable because it doesn't stick out the bottom of the DS, which gets to be more irritating than you might think it would. If you're looking at the M3 for the media playing capabilities, consider that its movie player only plays at 10fps, and that's not any better than you can get with Moonshell (which works with any flash cart).

Also, I'd recommend flashing your DS (nmiaow) for the same reason as the article you linked -- it's possible to brick an unflashed DS by running malicious software. Also, passmes are generally bulky and irritating and I've heard they use up the battery. You should find out if anyone you know has a passme or the proper wifi card so you can flash your DS -- save your $20. Mine's just sitting in a drawer in my room; too bad you don't live near me.

I've read that the homebrew support for SD stuff isn't really there yet, which is why I was looking for a CF solution. I don't really care about the media playing capabilities (I have an iPod, I don't want to watch movies on the thing). Do you think there's a good chance that homebrew SD support is going to get better soon? Would a GBAMP be just as good, if all I want is to run stuff off the CF?

Someone should really start a "lend a passme" service or something.

You're right; I looked into it and it looks homebrew stuff only has read-only access to the SD carts. But NitroTracker and DSOrganize claim support for the Supercard/M3 SD, so I dunno what's going on there, unless they're writing to the GBA battery-backed memory or something funny like that.

It's hard to say if support for the new carts will improve or not. It probably will eventually but development for several of these projects is very sporadic.

I dunno much about the GBAMP but it seems that it's very widely supported.
