I've been having fun playing online probably because the game is so new people still suck enough that I can beat them. I still don't have enough "rivals" so I haven't been able to test out the voice chat on the bog-standard DS microphone; I've been looking forward to that ( ... )

er, that might not work. I've only heard stories of that extension. The only times I've had a problem with textareas being too small is when sites require me to paste my resume into a 3-line textarea, and then I'm usually too busy to go about installing firefox extensions.
Anyway, if it doesn't work, you may have to poke around for an updated copy.

Came across this program and thought you might be interested. You have to buy some special hardware to run homebrew code on the DS, though (a GBA cartridge that has some memory you can write to and some means of getting around the DS's copy protection).

I don't want Quake. I want Metroid. A game where you have all your abilities at the start is not Metroid as far as I'm concerned.

I probably overstated the Quake thing. The graphics are on par with Quake and the atmosphere isn't too dissimilar, that's all. (Plus, there's the multiplayer, of course.) The gameplay in MPH is actually remarkably Metroid-like - lots of exploration, backtracking to areas that were formerly inaccessible, bumping your ball around with bombs, etc. I didn't play the other Metroid Prime games, so I'm not sure how it compares to those.

Samus does indeed start with all her abilities, but 'all' here just means the missile launcher, the ball thing, and a single health bucket. Plenty of interesting upgrades are to be found later throughout the game. You don't start out as a powerhouse or anything - basically there's just one fewer type of door that "can't be opened with that weapon."
