Mercedes Lackey update: After reading/really disliking Winds of Fate a while back, I was concerned I'd only like the first trilogy; however, I read Exile's Honor and By the Sword and really liked both. tbh I LOVED By the Sword so much. It seems like you are reading Velgarth in the same order I did! (Which was in the order of "books they have at the library, when they have them"). By the Sword is my *favorite* but it does make more sense when you have a better idea of who Tarma and Kethry are. Winds will also make significantly more sense if you've read the Magic's trilogy. Vanyel is a huge player in the Winds trilogy. (And even though those books weren't written until after Arrows, most of the ideas were already fleshed out and show up in Arrows).

I couldn't stand Mary as a person, but I really like Bess Hardwick. I did come to dislike Elizabeth quite a bit, though.
