Jim Doyle will not seek a third term.I think everyone who reads my blog is aware of my political leanings, despite the fact that people who are actually affiliated with my party refused to hire me because at one point, I was an unpaid intern for the other party. I'm pretty much over that (except that I still think those people are stupid), and I ( Read more... )

Ooo, new user pic.

I'm so excited about the governor's race! I'm bummed, though, that I can't be involved. Doyle was pretty crappy, I agree. His 180 on whether or not the DNR secretary should be cabinet-level was especially obnoxious. Short-sighted much? I like Sec. Frank a lot, and the secretaries appointed by Thompson and McCallum were okay, but all politics aside, environmental management is such a long-term prospect that having to change secretaries every 4-8 years can shoot some of the more important reform goals in the foot. It was hard enough to change secretaries when both were appointed by the same guy! (Sec. Frank was chosen by Doyle to replace former Sec. Scott Hassett a couple years back.) I seriously hope Doyle can swallow his pride and sign the bill handing it back to the Natural Resources Board before he leaves.

I'd love to see a post from you at some point about the current prospective candidates. Did you ever see or hear much of Lt. Gov. Lawton? Any scuttlebutt on Rep. Kind or Tom Barrett? :3

That's interesting about the cabinet-level DNR secretary - I didn't know about that. And you're right, it does sound like a crappy way to do things.

I don't know a ton about Lawton/Kind/Barrett, or really Walker for that matter (although for a while he and Green were opponents in the primary until they made Walker bow out).

There have been rumors that Senators Kanavas or Erpenbach might run, though - if that happens, I totally will!
