Actually, the current Nijo is probably based on the same picture scrolls that Otogizoushi is based on. Speaking of which, I really liked the first half of that series and I really hated the second half. Also, the dates used in the story don't match up with any historical events, and that's *really* annoying. I always felt like I could write it a lot better. (But I did think it was cool how they retold the story of Minamoto no Raikou and "his" band of trusty companions).
