So today was a pretty exciting day. Because I found Lomo cameras in Adelaide. Not once, but twice.

First was a whole bunch of the newer cameras - like my ColourSplash, in a shop off Rundle St. That in itself was exciting enough ( Read more... )

The model I have is late 70's, to early 80's. Made in the USSR. Lolz.

Yayz Market Bazaar. I sell them all my crap CDs. I once found a book there called 'Photographing Your Cat', it was amazing. I'm still baffled as to why I didn't part with my $3 in exchange for it... *headdesks*

That's the name! I'd completely had a blank on it.
I got an East 17 CD there once. Gold.
I want to go back and have a proper look at the photography stuff - today I was too excited with my discovery.

They seem to have some reasonable stuff, as far as I can tell. I've often sifted through their old black and white prints, but never been tempted enough. We did find an 8-track player there once, though, and sheet music for John Paul Young's "I Hate the Music". Lolz.

Some of their old photographs are quite lovely. I actually went in there today because I thought they might have some expired film on the cheap.

I should have a look at the book section. I could probably spend a good half a day looking at everything in there. For reals.

Haha Smena that's so Russian. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a girls' name.

Apparently it means something like 'Young Generation', or youth, or something similar.

Oooooo - camera toy :)

you look back at stuff like this and realise how completely spoilt we are today. I was at the dragoon boats yesterday and took about 180 photos of our work team coming 4th.

I don't think I would even own a camera if I had to use film to be honest. I need that instant feedback as I still don't know how to work light.

f/4 isn't bad. You have to start getting to expensive lenses to get better then that. You will find the fixed 40mm annoying after getting used to zoom. I have a 30mm f/1.4 lense and it's 'OH MY GOD! HOW CLOSE YOU WANT ME TO GET?!' and all these photos of little people in the background.

Not a great range of shutter speeds if you are trying to do anything funky - anything below 1/60th is tricky for a hand held without blur. 1/250 is not 'super' fast either so don't expect to be taking too many action shots :)

Have fun :)

Ja, the ColourSplash I already have is film, so I'm slowly getting used to no playback!

Now that I have this camera I'll have to actually learn to deal with light, and distance and so on. Hopefully the entire roll doesn't come out blurry!

The thing that's confusing me the most is film speed, and what settings the ASA should be on. The film I've got is 400, and I've taken a few shots with it on ASA 320, since that's the highest it'll go up to.
