I've gotten back the ballistics reports from the shell casings used by the drones during the attack, Alia radioed Zero. I've also investigated the outputs of several high-production Reploid factories... It looks like your hunch was right. BWAHAHAH, now I've seen EVERYTHING. So, I downloaded a translated chapter of the Brazilian Megaman manga (wildly OOC and cracky of course, but LICENSED BY CAPCOM so as official as the Ariga manga!) and... BWAHAHHA.

I give you this buried treasure I just found: "The Flags Hung Dead" by Solitary Confinement. Zero-era, as Ragnarok is falling. Short and utterly sad, with a nice clean style and a great line or two in there that hit perfect notes.
