[The housekeeper doesn't usually bring the day's newspaper with her. Maybe she's turning over a new leaf. Maybe it's just a fluke or an accident. But for whatever reason the paper turns up on the kitchen table around mid-morning. It looks like it's been thumbed through once already. Now it's here for whomever might want to read it

And that work?
Why of course, he's reading over the newspaper and making notes from it. Of course, the skeleton is the first thing that catches his eye, and he's read and reread that article quite a few times. However, at the moment, he's working through what he knows of the history of this time period vs. what this paper shows as being important to the people of this town, and comparing and contrasting them.
If he manages to take these notes back home with him, he's going to be quite interested in talking to some history experts.]

He sits down at the table with a cup of plain black tea and plate of fried eggs that look like they might have had omelet aspirations which never quite made it passed lightly scrambled, and he glances sidelong at the newspaper.
A headline catches his eye and he turns it towards him for a moment so that he can read the article, but for the moment he's silent.]

There are a few muffins in the bread box, that I made earlier.
[There, he's being helpful and polite, isn't he? Even if he does lean over a little to keep his eyes on the paper, as if it might walk away.]

[But he does notice Gau leaning over to keep the paper in his view, which gives him a chance for subtle retribution: rather than just sliding it back once he's glanced over the headlines, he pulls it fully in front of him and to the side of the table away from Gau, reading as he eats.]

Russet eyes cut from the water to the paper, then up at the man. "... for you too? Mind if I ask which part?"
Nodding to the paper, he turned off the water as he clarified, "The stock market or the aeronautics advancements - or both?"
