[At around 8:30, which is just under two hours from when the ghouls vanished, when the mansion is free from the sounds of crashing, combat and impending violence, there suddenly rings out an almighty SHRIEEEK! from somewhere on the ground floor of mansion

He's wearing loose cotton trousers but no shirt, and his hair is loose over his shoulders, but he doesn't pause for conveniences. For all he knows, those damn things are back again.
He gets as far as the landing of the first floor before he finds someone in his way.]

As Allen moves to make quick work of the stairs, he notices Kanda coming down from the second floor and stops before they physically collide with each other.]
Kanda?

Tch. Get out of my way, Moyashi. There's something happening downstairs. [He doesn't so much as bat an eye at Allen's state of undress, being too focused on other matters for the moment (at least for now).]

Wha--?
[He glances around a couple of times in confusion, though he makes the assumption that the scream from earlier and the telephones ringing may very well be related. Allen's attention is still very much on what caused the scream though and he is less interested in a fight with Kanda. He nods toward the stairs, indicating Kanda should go first.]
Go on then.

she picks up the telephone in time to catch the end of the tirade, wincing as the noise grates on her ears after a long night of uneasiness and fear.]
Ah ... excuse me, but ... the damage wasn't our fault, madam ... [she tries to keep her voice firm despite the exhaustion and her continued confusion about how a telephone works, to only partial success.]

Oh, and just whose fault is it, then? Eh? Little elves and goblins that came in the night?

If there was a reason, I certainly don't know of it.

There were vandals. It just so happened they all had robes.

Nevermind. Suffice to say that we were under attack last night and we valiantly defended the house as we can, like good knights.

It's knights now. Next there'll be dragons. They must've mistaken the asylum. Clear on the other side of town...

The shriek had him bolting upright. He was still fully dressed as he ran out into the hallway. He didn't bother with the ringing phone. Someone was screaming. Those things could be back. He skidded to a stop near the housekeeper, eyes wide.]
Are you OK? They didn't hurt you, did they? [He was very wild eyed as he looked about, as though any minute one of them would jump out of a shadow and attack again. He only just resisted the urge to grab her by the shoulders and look her over for damage.]

Hurt me? Who? [Surely not those two half-naked boys, the one of whom had stalked off to heaven-knew-where and the other who'd just been banished to sweep up the neighboring room. Uncouth as they were, it had never occurred to her that they might be threatening.] What are you talking about?

I thought...well, obviously I was wrong. [His eyes still dart to the shadows, as though he expects something to jump out of them at any moment.]
We were attacked last night by...[Monsters. No, he can't say that. She'd think he was off his rocker for sure.]...by a bunch of weirdos in robes. I don't know what they were after. They seemed keen on getting into the basement, and they didn't care who they hurt to do it.

Robes? What kind of robes? That doesn't make any sense to me since there's no-one like that around here. [She pauses, though after a moment she sees fit to give George another question.] And what might they want in the basement? [She fixes him with a pointed stare.] You lot aren't rum-runners, are you?
