We still have our 286. My earliest fanfic is still on there, I wish I could remember what the hell the password was to it. Horrible schmoopsy angstiest of the angsty Gen X fanfic that I wrote when I was 15, with WordPerfect 5.1 and its eye searing blue screen. <3 ( ... )

The first computer I ever used was a PDP 11. I used the keypunch to punch the cards so that I could run the program that would calculate square roots! We all cheered when they switched from cards to tape, because cards were easily mixed up.

My first home computer was a kluge- a z80 processor with ROM we burned ourselves. We had a 20K, 8" floppy drive, and the OS was CPM. I had a monochrome Heathkit monitor with a built-in keyboard.

We used to hang out on BBS on our 800 baud modem.

I AM older than dirt.

I remember ALL of those. Including my breadbox 286 with the orange and brown monitor and no internet connection to speak of. I was in hog heaven when I got it. Before that I had a dinky Atari comp that was only good for playing Venture and Buck Rogers...the latter off a cassette drive.
