I love Eurovision, but...

... I must admit to being really disappointed with our entry for this year. It's written by Pete Waterman, and I think he has his mass-appeal formula from the 80's still stuck in his head. Admittedly, it's got a catchy hook - but that doesn't save the song from being forgettable, generic, and dated ( Read more... )

Hehe - there's definitely truth in that!

But even so, the winning songs are generally pretty good, and usually have at least one original or unusual aspect. Sadly, we seem to be going for trite and tired. I don't really expect us to ever win a Eurovision again due to the nature of the voting, but I'd at least like us to submit a song we can genuinely call good!

Although based on the last two year's winners, i wonder if the real secret is having a violin! ;)

Wow, someone with less stage presence and less interesting voice than Rick Astley. Either now or back in the 80s.

That is not going to do well. There's no power in it at all. About the only worthy bit was the lead in before he started singing. It just fell flat after that though.

Totally agree!

In fact, I tried imagining Rick Astley's voice instead, and I think he would have improved it a fair bit! I mean, it still would be horribly dated, but at lesat it'd sound like something people would have actually bought back then! ;)
