Myst games on iPod/iPad devices

Jul 18, 2011 09:14

I recently got an iPad and I saw they have some of the Myst games (Myst and Riven are what I've searched so far) in the apps store to purchase/download (there is a free Myst game as well).  Has anyone played these versions yet?  Are they worth the time to download/money to pay?
Thanks,

I bought the Myst game for my iPhone almost as soon as I got it. I'm actually quite happy with it, though I could stand to play it a little bit more. It's a nice little time killer when you're sitting around some where waiting for something.

It is rather spendy, but generally bigger games like that cost more anyway. I figure if I'm going to spend 5 bucks on a game it might as well be Myst related.

Yeah, the $5 does seem reasonable. The only other games I really play on a regular basis are Angry Birds and Words with Friends. It would be nice to have a different type of game on there. Thanks for the review.

The free game should be Myst's 'demo' aka Myst Island without the Ages. The only Myst games available are Myst and Riven, plus Cyan's classic The Manhole and their new casual titles Stoneship and Bug Chucker. I'm a sad Android owner so I can't vouch for the ports' quality... but I did get a chance to play a little Stoneship and it's a fun tiny strategy thing from what I've seen. From what I've heard, they are good ports, but that's it... if you already know the originals, it all depends on how often you plan to replay them on the road. :)

Oh and a free, ad-enabled version of Bug Chucker is available for Android devices. I plan to download it asap!

Thanks for the explanation on the difference between the free and paid versions. I couldn't tell from the descriptions in the store.

I bought it when it first came out for the Itouch.

I'll agree with everyone that it is worth it...My only complaint is that I have larger fingers and so some of the 'hot spots' can be hard to click on the smaller screen.

Not to mention - there we a few times that the game 'stuck' and wouldn't move when I tapped it...

Other than that - I say it's more than worth the $

I have a hard time sometimes of trying to touch the screen but my nails get in the way, but that is easier to deal with than large fingers, lol. Thanks for the review. I think I might do it, but how large is the game? We got the 16GB iPad and I don't want to clog it up or find out the game is too big.

I found when I installed it on my 16GB ITouch that it only took up about 1gb of space (I had about 1,500 songs on it as well and one other game = and I still had about 12GB left)

They actually play really well on the iPod touch. The ports were made by Cyan Worlds themselves, so everything was handled with a lot of care. Myst, in particular, looks fantastic, and the only downside in my eyes is that doors now use a fade transition when you open and close them, instead of the nifty "flip" transition in the original version. It's also a bit weird to play without a cursor to show you what you can interact with, but I imagine that with the bigger screen of the iPad it should be easier to tell where the hotspots are. It's really cool to play by tapping, anyway. This one is definitely worth buying ( ... )

I think I would get Myst before Riven as it's been about 15 years since I've played Myst so I want to go back to that first. Thanks for the review!
