I adopted a new kitty today. She came home and we went to put her in the bathroom as a safe room and she immediately got out and is roaming ( hiding free) in the house somewhere. Oh dear. Have you tried inside the couches and chairs? We had a cat who loved to work his way up into the recliner.

And if she had the chance to burrow in any towel or bedding in the bathroom, laying out something with her scent might help.

ditto all the above...

just be careful where you tread until you find her, and where you sit...
and make sure there is still food & water somewhere she can find it when she *does* creep out.... {litterbox, too! '-}

one thing that {eventually} worked when my skitty kitty first came home was me sitting in the floor, near where i thought she was {and where i'd put her food}, just talking to her very quietly...
it took several tries and quite a few hours before she started making tentative "miaws", but eventually she crept out where i could see her... and a while after that, she even let me hold her for a bit...

good luck!!!

If you sit and just read a book, sit near where you think she is but do something else. Read, knit, whatever.

It might take the new kitty a week to warm up, be patient!

It will take aobut a month for her to really relax. Leave her food and ater out for her and just be patient. When she comes to you, talk to her in a quiet voice. One step at a time. :)
