While sitting on an airplane during my recent trip to sunny Florida, I found myself scribbling a little Queer as Folk ficlet.

Oh, this was just lovely! Makes me want to re-watch QAF all over again. It's a great premise for a fic, and I particularly love your characterization of Gus. :)

Looking forward to the Gus and Hunter ficlet!

Aww, look at you writing QaF fic! *applauds* This was lovely. Gus's family is a little complicated when you think about it, but I love how natural it is to him. :-)

Yes, that's what I wanted to convey--that Gus's family is natural to him, and it could seem natural to all of us if we let it be so.

Hunter's got the cynical exterior--and with good reason--but he's got a good heart underneath. He knows better than anyone that kids need love, and that you don't have to be related by blood to be family.

I imagine that Gus was probably jealous when JR arrived and got so much attention--like most former only children--but in his case, it was probably exacerbated by their unusual family configuration. For example, Gus once was the closest thing to a grandchild Debbie had. Now she has the real thing--and it's Gus's own sister. Hunter can't do much about that, but he can rectify the fact that JR has a teenage big brother and Gus doesn't.
