Are they male or female? And even though I'm Canadian, I;m dying to know whether they're Republican or Democrat? I've got my suspicions there, but I'd still like to know.

They were probably happy bullies themselves in school. Maybe they believe that if a gay student is bullied enough, he or she will decide not to be gay anymore.

I think your letter is perfect. It's understated but strong at the same time. I think it was a good call not to bring 'le gay' into it. Lots of other people will.
