FIC: Interviewing at Kinnetik

Jul 16, 2009 15:44

After reading several stories in which Justin meets Brian a few years later than canon-often when Justin gets a job wherever Brian works-I got inspired to write this:

Title: Interviewing at Kinnetik
Author: mysid
Pairing: Brian/Justin
Rating: PG or G (the horror!)

Interviewing at Kinnetik )

When did you figure out that it wasn’t him?
Good job on that, I had NO clue until He laughed. “In your dreams, blonde boy.”!
I originally figured he was talking to Lindsey or Michael. (And I had totally wondered how his mom would have EVER talked to Debbie if it hadn't been for her bringing him home that time, cause Jennifer is a bit of a snob...so to find out that it's just very "coincidental" similarities to the people we know was very cool.)

Thanks! The trickiest part of maintaining the illusion was only being able to refer to the job applicant as "he" rather than by name.

LOL--I wasn't even thinking that the PFLAG mom would be interpreted as Debbie. Fixing up Justin with Michael--[shudder].

LOL! I too thought the "son of lovely PFLAG woman" was Michael!

Nice twist to a nice story!

Jennifer and Debbie playing matchmakers for their sons--now that's funny. But of course, Debbie did want her son to marry "a nice doctor," why not "a nice Dartmouth graduate".

LOL, I admit I thought it was Justin. But you are right, you never said that. :)
I really enjoyed your story.

Thanks! It was fun trying to maintain the illusion as long as possible. Glad you enjoyed it.

If I'm being honest I figured out it wasn't Justin at this line:

and his mother was already dropping hints about fixing him up the son of “a really sweet woman I met at PFLAG”- but working at Kinnetik might make putting up with his parents worthwhile.

but I started to suspect when they started talking about his senior year project. Thanks!

Clever girl! You got it sooner than most. (But why at his senior year marketing project? Blue instead of Dartmouth green?)

Thanks for reading!

Thanks! Two things made me suspect at that point. The first was blue instead of green. But the main thing was you did not expressly state that this was an AU you inferred it but never stated it so either you were trying to trick the reader or you were opening yourself up to the mercilessness of the QAF fandom by not providing a warning.

I totally thought it was Justin until the 'blonde boy' comment.

Really good job!

Well it's not often-not often at all-that I get completely and utterly surprised. You completely threw me, and the fact that I thought it was going to be an ongoing story is what helped. I need to read summaries better. Anyways yeah I didn't see it until Brian said Sunshine, and then I was smiling my ass off at the fact that someone got one over ON me. It was so great. I love to be surprised over a writers ability to keep it close. Fantastically done..........SATURN
