Lab Insanity

Jan 19, 2006 20:10

It was my first week back in the lab last week, after three weeks off over xmas, and to put it mildly, it was a complete and unmitigated disaster. I managed to screw up my experiment not once, but three times. And this Monday I also managed to break a rather expensive piece of equipment - worse because that particular piece of equipment belongs to ( Read more... )

I'm so damn GLAD to hear you had a day at home...you need to relax once in a while, yeh?! I can't imagine working from like 9am (or earlier?) till night time....so so SO good to hear you took a day for YOU time (Lord, I sound like Dr Phil...but thats cool, cause I love him and want to be his second wife!).

Hey, it's going to be sunny Monday/Tuesday...wanna head to the beach? My tan needs a top up BIG TIME!

Heh, lab 'incidents'- no fun... I miss lab tho', really do. Maybe I'll stop by your lab if I ever make it to Australia, after you stop by the barn during your visit here - LOL;)

yeah, most of the time it's OK, it just gets the better of me sometimes. And sure, that'd be fun :)

Oh, sucky. This is why I left lab life behind me forevermore. I can empathize. *huggles you*

I managed to screw up my experiment not once, but three times.

I hate when that happens.

But it doesn't really improve my desire to do the work when it has been a year, and he still hasn't managed to put my paper together.

Both my past PIs are the same. When it's convenient for me, it seems, they slack off. Now, that I'm frantically trying to get a new job started, now they're BOTH on my case wanting to finish things up. It annoys. Where were they when I was in their goddamn labs full-time. Suck it up, boys, my new job comes first.

so it's quiet and lonely, and I really just don't have any desire to be there

I never minded that. Meant I could catch up on the LJ boards in peace, heheh. Or write dirty fics.

I've only got the best part of a week to put a conference poster together. Eep *is scared*

Nothing like fear to motivate you, I guess! ;)

Thanks *huggles back* yeah, I'm envious of what you do. I would much rather teach, I've just got to finish this pesky PhD first.

I'm glad it's not just me. It just really annoys me. How am I supposed to have any kind of interest in my project when my supervisor couldn't care less?

You are indeed correct. Although my desk/computer etc are two floors away from the lab. So when I'm in the lab, there's nothing to do but work :(

Yeah, a damn pain. Two years since I graduated, and I'm STILL recovering. Ugh.

I agree. Luckily, I never really had that exact problem - they were both interested, but they were both sidetracked by other things, so the drafts just sat on their desks while they ran around 'putting out fires'.

Oh crap. Yay for integrated lab spaces, I guess.

(LJ sucks. I just wrote a long comment and it snatched it away.)

Ohh yes. Failed experiments. Actually that hasn't happened to me lately. Probably only because I haven't done any. :P

Lonely labs are no fun. Ours has been pretty active for the past few months, so I really can't use that excuse.

A week to make a poster? Heh... I'm sure you probably remember my mid-Nov posts. Sooo much fun!

hee, yeah I do. And I've never made one before. Although one of the girls I work with has said she'll give me her template, so that might help.

*tackle hugs you*

It's been awhile!! Oh man, sorry about the lab! Hopefully things will get better for you and you'll feel better about how things are going. And that you get your paper back!!! A year seems like an excessively long time to not address it!

*hugs back* Thanks heaps. Yeah I think I'm starting to feel better about things, it just took me a while to deal with the horror that was my first week back!
