Tegenarism (Hobo Spider Bite)

I'm not in the habit of posting medical issues in open places, but I'm frankly looking for any new leads or information we can use to help my neighbor. I'm a nurse, and all of us (doctors, nurses, patient) are hitting the wall on what we can do to help this friend of mine ( Read more... )

We had hobo's in our house in Missoula. The spider pictured is not a Hobo, perhaps a BR. Hobo's are very hairy and tend to stay in basement or first floor. They are very fast and very aggressive ( ... )

That totally stinks for your neighbor! ACK! I have no advice to give, but I concur about the poisons being responsible. I know with toxins that they can sit in the body somewhere and effect the body over and over again. I also think that I saw a Discover Channel program on BR that said as much for victims of BR reoccurring problems after being bitten.

My advise would be in prevention. Spray for critters. We do! But we also don't have to worry about the BR in Arizona... the Black Widow is our critter here.

Well I'm sorry to hear about the situation and I'm sorry to say that I don't have any treatments, but to my knowledge the hobo spider and brown recluse cause the same kind of necrosis just more intensely from the brown recluse so it could quite possibly be a brown recluse. You also mentioned that the cycle of a hobo spiders bite usually lasts a week but it may not be the case with a brown recluse. Hopefully this little tidbit can help in some way.

Just a side note I also noticed a comment from another person saying that the picture is possibly a brown recluse, but it is not because on the brown recluses back you can distinctly see a violin which you dont see in the picture. But the hobo has a striking resemblance to the recluse aside from the violin its hard to tell, but to me that spider does look like a hobo.

I was thinking earlier today my brother had what seemed to be the bite of a hobo spider about a week or two ago, but it escalated to a point where he had ulcerations spreading all over his legs. When he went to the doctor they said that he could have MRSA a skin eating bacteria. What happened to your neighbor may possibly have been misdiagnosed as a spider bite, even though it could have been some sort of infection or bacteria. It may not be MRSA but it could be some other sort of skin eating bacteria. However, I don't know the exact situation, so i could be completely wrong, but I figured any type of information could help. Good luck.
