Theological Question

Okay, here's a tough one. If we claim that sickness (for example) is a result of Adam and Eve's sin, then we can say that our sickness is either a result of our sin, our inherited sin, or our original sin (depending on what you believe about those). With that understanding, since Jesus was sinless, did that mean He was never sick? If it was

um. im sure jesus got sick. He was a man just like us that experienced pain, temptation and suffering. I know that he didn't have sin "on him" because of what the Bible says.

Your second question had me confused. is it another debate about whether Jesus had sin?

Yeah, the death question is basically the same as the sickness question, except that we know for sure that Jesus died, but we don't know for sure if He got sick.

hrm okay. haha i guess this is a good example of why im not theologian-ish. stuff like this seems pointless to debate. I figure though that since he was a man, he may have had a headache or two, especially when having to deal with some of the peeps in his time.

Yeah, it is pointless to debate, but sometimes it's fun to just think of thoughts like this. It's like one of those "deep thoughts of the day."

hey what about job? he was sick and had all sorts of horrible things go on in his life so that God's glory might be magnified, not because of any sin job was secretly lugging around.

i feel very very strongly on this subject because my dad once read a book called "why christians get sick" and to sum the whole book up, we get sick because of unconfessed sin. my dad took this hook line and sinker, and forced it down my mom's throat once when she had a cold. hence, my strong feelings of wanting to kick the crap out of the idea, my dad, and the author of that book.

i cannot see how anyone who has even read just a smattering of job can believe that bullshit. can sin be the reason? sure. but is it always the reason?

Hmmm. Good thoughts! Reminds me of the story of the blind man, when people asked Jesus who sinned: this man or his parents? Jesus even said it was neither; he was born blind so that God's glory may be shown. Good stuff!

Another question though... just to play devil's advocate. Do you believe that before sin entered the world through Adam and Eve, that there was no sickness or pain? Matt Cummings appears to believe not, and that's the first I've heard that view, but it does make sense in a way. What do you think?

P.S. The view that sickness, pain, and death is the result of us not doing something right sounds like scientology.

oooh gosh it sure does! scientology scares me!

hmm... honestly, i don't know. sin entered through adam and eve, and death came as a result of sin... does that mean that nothing died? not plant life or animals or skin cells? did the plants adam and eve ate still live all the way through digestion? i'm not trying to sound flippant. i just don't know. as far as sickness goes... honestly, i can't even venture a guess. is it something that's evolved over time?

oh my gosh did i just say evolve????????!!!!!!!!!! slap my hands and give me a bumper sticker with the truth fish eating the darwin fish!

whenever i debate creationism, i usually attack the politics of it, and so the theology gets lost in the jumble.

Whew! Tough thoughts, but good ones. I really think that our world was MUCH different before sin came. Too, we're not sure how long Adam and Eve were living before they sinned. It could have been a day, it would have been a thousand years. God only knows (literally). Probably the only way for us to know for sure the way things were is to get a time machine or just ask God when we get to Heaven. Let's make it a point to ask Him then.
