Fucking IPv6 strikes again

Thanks for this. I suspected IPv6 was the culprit of this issue with my nameserver. Your tip seems to be for 10.4, for 10.5 edit:

/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.isc.named.plist

and make it look like this:

ProgramArguments

/usr/sbin/named
-f
-4

In 10.6 its the same as 10.4 (I skipped 10.5), plus another file is in the directory as well:

new contents of:
/System/Library/StartupItems/BIND/StartupParameters.plist
{
Description = "Local Caching DNS Server";
Provides = ("DNS Server");
OrderPreference = "None";
Messages =
{
start = "Starting BIND DNS Server";
stop = "Stopping BIND DNS Server";
};
}

This makes it work, and more importantly, makes it work regardless of the contents of file you mention. The file you mention is probably created by the GUI on a server-grade OSX, I couldn't honestly say, but I haven't had to change mine in 10.6
