Places with atmosphere 3

I'm lucky enough to live so close to Portsmouth that it's not unusual for us to go over there for a walk and morning coffee then come home. I love the Historic Dockyard, but that's not where I'm squeeing over today. It's the old walls that get to me, and the places by (and through!) them. The garrison church, with all its memorabilia,

the tunnel where Nelson last set foot on English soil, and the Round Tower, the view from which moves me every time I'm there. I try to imagine the Solent full of sailing ships, naturally.

And there's a special reason I love this view. It was here, in 2005, that I saw a sea mist the colour of Archie's eyes. That sight persuaded me to delurk. The rest - the friendships, the happy times, being published - is all a result of that.
