Bluh, I feel pretty shitty tonight, so I apologise if my commentary is unintelligible. I'm currently missing th Joann Sfar Gainsbourg biopic at Pitcher & Picture, oh well.
I bet I know what kept you from HowltwitchywroteFebruary 1 2011, 05:22:34 UTC
I remember on your 33 filmz project, you called it How's Moving Asshole because it saw a DVD release before Only Yesterday. :)
I agree that Black Dynamite could have been a lot better, but I liked the 'accidental' reshoot footage and the Chinese syndicate scene ("the fuck you doing?!"), still. Oh, and the scene where they put together all the unassociated clues at the diner.
There are at least 5 films I really want to see now. :)
I sometimes feel as though I'm one of the only people who don't care for Paris, Texas. I love HDS & there's a gorgeous aesthetic to it, but there's something really off about him & N. Kinski pouring out their souls in a nudie booth.
I keep meaning to borrow Panic in the Streets from the library. I want to watch more noir, & I'm generally pro-Kazan (esp. love Baby Doll & A Face in the Crowd).
I actually want to watch pretty much all of these, particularly Morgiana & Funeral Parade of Roses.
I found th ridiculousness of that scene really intriguing, because it still came off as heartfelt/honest to me. There should have been more Dean Stockwell, though!
rad films. Richard Widmark is so rad. Howl's gets too much criticism, I think, because it's an adaptation and it's not quite as good / coherent as most of his films, but it's still pretty great. Funeral Parade is incredible. I will def. have to watch Morgiana. I don't think Uncle Boonmee has played here except for 2 screenings at the film fest last fall which I missed.

I liked HMC a lot, though it wouldn't top any Ghibli lists for me, though I kind of want to go back & reread th children's book again.
See Morgiana! Second Run actually has a great R2 dvd of it, but I don't have a region-free player, otherwise I'd buy it asap.
