a coffee table or something that has a lot of clutter. My MIL lost her remote over the weekend and spent a week looking for it, just to slap some papers on the dining room table and find it laying under something she THOUGHT had been there a long time and the remote couldn't possibly be under there.

You could try in your bathroom. But I'm with @bblue23 in thinking maybe you lent it out.

Are you the sort of person who reads in the bathroom? If so, have you looked behind the toilet? I've had a couple of books end up there because I put them down while on the throne and they either got forgotten or accidentally pushed back into the shadows.

Seriously sucks to have lost that book. Where were you and what were you doing the last time you saw it? Have you traveled recently? Maybe inside a suit case? Maybe you carried it in with some other things and it got added in. I once loaned a book to my friend, who returned it when I visited his house for a potluck dinner. I stuck the book inside my clean crockpot, thinking "I couldn't possibly forget about a book in a crockpot," put the crokpot in its cozy and didn't find it for eight months or so. So, try looking in what you think would be bizarre places, and inside medium-large sized items. Good luck!

I think you might be on to something! I wonder if I didn't accidentally leave the book at my parents' when I visited for Christmas.
