It's a long story... Somewhere in this book is a good explanation.

Luceti is something of a strange village in the middle of nowhere. The Malnosso bring people in from all sorts of different places and just dump them here with little wings attached.

I guess we're a bit like lab rats with benefits.

Tell me everything you know about the Malnosso family. Do they take a certain type of person? How many and how often? Are they all from the city, at least?

I meant more benefits than a lab rat usually gets. [If not by much, and that was arguable.]

I... don't know if the Malnosso are really a family... Though I guess they could be? We really only ever get to talk with one of them, and he's kinda... strange.
