Iris Rocks! jennydcf April 26 2007, 00:21:10 UTC
What other stories does she like?:-)

She's certainly Ed's daughter in every way that matters. I really liked the way she talked to her dad about the divorce and what a good, loving father he was. I have new respect for her mother, too. She made sure her daughter would have a decent chance to avoid making the mistakes she did, and being that honest with Iris must have been hard.

I love the relationship she has with Hank, too. It's an interesting one--she's not his daughter so much as his ally in the conspiracy to surround Ed with love. The two of them are also a little bit like mischievous children having to confess to a parent. I loved what Hank said about Ed's list: “Yeah, tha’s wha’ yer dad said, but all’s I know is tha’ I wouldn’ wanna be tied ta the railroad tracks next ta ya with a train headin’ straight fer us ‘n yer dad only havin’ ‘nough time ta untie one of us."

What was it that Hank would have said just before Ed came out to the porch?

Hey there!
I asked Iris and she said she tries to read the canon stuff (although it can be hard on her) and the stories that veer from canon at some point to allow Jack and Ennis to find their way to each other, permanent-like. Although she admits to making the occasional foray into everything else as well. :D (I guess otherwise she would never have found Hank's story.) Btw, she's not telling her user name, but will say that she's never left a comment for Hank. (Thought it was too weird or something... :) As if her reading it wasn't weird enough for poor Ed.)

Yeah... Hank and Iris may have been jealous of each other early on, but these days they're pretty much a united front. And after this visit, Hank has new respect for Iris' mom too.

Hank doesn't remember exactly what he was going to say. But it was along the lines of "I think maybe yer dad goin' through all tha' made him start ta think fer his self 'n ended up makin' him a whole lot stronger."

Hope you enjoy the rest of Iris' visit.

Oh my! I smiled when I read this, I have always been a feminist (been reading Ms. magazine since 1973, which tells you how old I am LOL) anyway have always had a copy of this, one edition or another on my bookshelf, never even thought about it, one way or another,...well had a son, who read it also (cringes) later when he tells me he read it, I almost died, then he tells me, "no it was good, it helped me, and then I was actually able to help other people".. well there you go. Love Iris, how she's smart enough to know her Dad, what a great chapter! Thanks!

LOL at your son taking it upon himself to read "Our bodies Ourselves". LOVED that he was using his knowledge to help others! That is so great! Glad you liked the chapter and Iris too.

Okay, it's chapters like this that make me stop and think, "could this somehow be real?".

So, listen, just tell me and I promise not to tell anyone. Really!! ;)

Great chapters/parts/sections/whatever!

Don't you think Ed's been through enough this week without me telling you that he's real too. ;D

The chapter/parts/etc... is getting kind of silly, isn't it? Probably just should have kept calling them chapters, but Hank had no idea that Ed was going to out them to the neighbors or that the truck was going to pass away, or that Iris had read their story, etc...

Whatever they are... glad you're enjoying them!

Great work with Iris joetheone April 26 2007, 03:48:57 UTC
I thought Iris might have found the story out and figured out who Ed and Hank were and well it is funny so funny thinking that she might have figured it all out and well feet are a good thing to compare. Hmm foot fetish never thought of that feet are not my thing but I do look at them a lot. Oh well I know I send this story to so many of my friends because well I love it so much it makes me so happy every time I see a chapter written. Joe

Hey Joe, We'll have to try and get Ed's boots and socks off and see if that was just wishful thinking on a young Iris' part. Glad you still like Iris, though. And that's so sweet of you to send Ed and Hank to your friends!

Well there's a twist in the tale (pun intended)that was unexpected. Must say Ed took it quite well considering. Hank's not going to stop writing is he? They are just like old friends. Would miss them something awful if he did.

'Fred and Frank'? - they wouldn't do that- be animal cruelty and I know Ed and Hank don't have a cruel bone in their bodies - love bones only- oops! I hope Iris doesn't read the comments as well...

Hey there,
Yeah... Ed did take it a LOT better than Hank expected. Although, I think Ed might still be in denial. And as long as he stays there he should be just fine. (I think they've got pie there.)

'Fred and Frank' would be animal cruely, wouldn't it? And don't worry about Iris reading the comments, she's an adult. (At least in terms of her actual age.)

That's so sweet of you to say Ed and Hank are like old friends. Thanks! Hank's writing will slow way down for at least part of the summer IF they actually do work it out so that they can go on that extended road trip. But I know he'll want to write again when he gets back.
