I'm having a mixed response to your essay. Yes, we citizens of western countries can do a lot more to educate ourselves and others about genocide, and certainly, we should be more aware of what is happening right now, be looking for warning signs. It is hard to see the realities of these situations here in Australia, because our popular media is so narrow and commercial. I would like to see us all take more of an effort to be more informed, so we can properly respond ( ... )

actuly, I do think we should go in there and stop them. Yes, it is heavyhanded. But I also think we have a responsabiltie to help thoes being murdered.

look at it this way. If you were walking down a street and saw soem oen getign stabbed, would you just stand there? would you turn away? Or would you (if a civilian) call the cops, or if you had training (police or military) would you stop the crime?

Is bombing every place the answer? No. What should be done is a safe zone type of action, simlar to what Dallaire did in Rwanda, but on a large scale. Once a safe zone is made, we can go to clasic peace talks.

Lemkin is a truely awesome person. If they award noble prizes after death (you know, that big word that starts with P that I can't spell...) he should get one. True unsung hereo there.

Most of my Lemkin info comes from a book called "A Problem From Hell" if you wnat to learn more.

ooo! both of those are great, thanks! The essay is still being revied (im on the 3rd edition sence i posted, and will be posted E3 soon, next monday most likely).

Yes, military intervention in itsself isnt bad, its how we go about it. TBH, while 'stop killign them or we will kill YOU' works short term, it wont do a damn thing long term.

I'm one of the few freakishly weird people in the world that enjoys proofreading people's papers. I pasted this into Microsoft Word and actually started already (it's a habit). If you'd like, I can email what I've found so far with highlighted corrections/suggestions.

Okay, all finished and emailed. I think the code I used is yellow highlights mean things that were corrected and purple-ish highlights are explanations of corrections/suggestions, or something like that. I did find some errors so please look through it again.

It is NEVER a good idea to be the only one proofreading a paper because you'll always miss something. It's best to have a fresh set of eyes look at it, especially since they'll see things in a different perspective and may ask you to clarify things that seem obvious to you but not the reader. Always have a friend that's good at proofreading look at it, or check to see if your university/college has a writing center. Chances are they do and they'll check your paper for free.
