How did Lestrade meet Sherlock?
I think in a professional capacity working on a case. Sherlock probably offered his services, Lestrade turned him down, but in the end Lestrade used him and saw he was a genius!!!

I think Sherlock is WAY TOO CLEVER to get caught out on a drugs offence.

I think Sherlock had a meltdown in ASIP when Lestrade was checking his flat for drugs because there were drugs in the flat. In the pilot Sherlock admits to the cabbie that he has been a drug user. I think he still has drugs in the flat.

What drugs would Sherlock have been involved with?
That is a difficult one. Yes cocaine in Canon. But what about a modern day Sherlock? Would he be doing cannibis and Es and other recreational drugs at Uni? I don't think he would have done anything more dangerous but, as you said, cocaine is Canon.

What do others think?

My reason for thinking he got pinched at one point was that he kept insisting he was clean. Having known enough addicts in my life, I thought his reaction was of someone who had experience trying to explain away...something.

I agree something was in the flat he did not want anyone to find...

Probably cocaine, yes. Although given how hyper he is...wow.

"I`m thinking that Sherlock managed to get into a crimescene and maybe started to follow Lestrade making comments along the way.
And in the end Lestrade noticed that Sherlock solved the case or atleast made it easier for him."

I agree. Exactly.

I think that is a good point, too-the worst about flatmates. For whatever reason, he is not overly proud of something.

Unless, again, he got pinched and that is what he is not proud of.

Well, in the show, Lestrade says he's known Sherlock for five years. What happened five years ago? The July 7th bombings in London.

I don't know if the writers planned that on purpose, or if its just coincidence, but interesting all the same. I imagine Sherlock would take it very personally if someone attacked his city, and would have made himself instrumental in finding the organisation responsible.

If he was taking drugs, realising he could work with the police to solve crimes, rather than it just being a hobby, might have been the thing that made him stop.

That's just my theory anyway :)

Another good point. I have forgotten about July 7. Very good point. I got the sense he does follow the news closely as he has piles of papers and magazines about and the tv...and I agree about how he feels about HIS city.

Aw, I can't take all the credit for that idea, I'm afraid! I remember seeing someone else mention it in the fandom, and I researched it to make sure the timing was right. The timing is perfect in fact, so I'm pretty much using that as my head canon!

On a more personal note, I remember that day very well. A friend and I were about to jump on a train to Kings Cross when an announcement warned everyone not to go into London, as a power cut had shut down the Underground. My friend and I looked at each other and both though 'That's a lie, something bad has happened.'. So we ran back to her house and watched the whole thing unfold on the news.

Mycrofting members

You are all genius!!! I love this discussion thread!!! Keep the theories coming!!!

And Siduri - You have just got yourself a new role in this community.

As and when you are able, start a discussion topic. I love discussing aspects of the show and the response so far to this post has shown that the other Mycrofting members do too.

So we should DO discussions!!!

I have a piece which I will post this weekend/early next week along with my response to it. I would be very interested in hearing the views of the Mycrofting members on the piece. You are all geniuses and so I am very keen to hear your views. The piece will go up early next week at the latest.

Yes, and we should perhaps tag them so that if and when anything is revealed in the program we can see if anyone actually pegged it!

Happy to oblige. And I will post a story thread. Right at this moment, though, Snowpocalypse '11 has all my attention, unfortunately...

But, I will. I did find an online site for the stories in the event someone wants to participate and does not have a book.

Brilliant - You are on!!!

No urgency - just start a new discussion as and when you have the time and as and when you think of things.

"And I will post a story thread." Brilliant. Can't wait for this!!!

I will track down how you can access the stories online - leave that with me - you just pick whichever story you want to start with!!!
