Movie Monday meets Theatre Tuesday

Sorry about the lack of masterpost yesterday. It seems Mycrofting was modless. Here, therefore, is a double dose- a masterpost for both films and the theatre.

The last film I watched is Jesus Christ Superstar which is also a theatrical musical so fits in here rather well. I'd heard most of the songs before and knew some of them word for word but ( Read more... )

I have actually never seen JCSS in the filmed version, however, my local opera house performed the musical for two seasons and I went to see it several times a few years back. I adore it. I love how unconventional and at the same time "true" to the story it is. I love the rock elements in it and the cast did play a pretty big part in the awesomeness of it as well, I think :)

I'm a nonreligious person, but I love listening to and watching Jesus Christ Superstar.

Personally, I think that the 70s version of Jesus Christ Superstar has better music/singing, but there was another version released in 2000 that was more of a recorded stage performance rather than a musical motion picture. It also has a more modern look. The guy who plays Judas has one of the deepest voices I've ever heard, as does the one playing Caiaphas. It looks like someone has uploaded the entire thing to youtube (yay youtube!). You can find the first part over here. ;)

I'm not a huge fan of musicals myself. It always seems odd to me that people would be walking along and suddenly burst into song like in a Disney film. BUT... I have three movie/musical recommendations, both of which I've seen dozens of times and frequently listen to the soundtracks-
