ALI: FEAR EATS THE SOUL- [4.1] Like Todd Hayne’s FAR FROM HEAVEN, this film is strongly influenced by Douglas Sirk’s film ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS, in which an older woman falls for her young gardener. Fassbinder shakes things up a bit, by making the woman thirty years older than the man she falls in love with, who just happens to be Arabic.
