Went from my last place to the beginning of "Shelob's Lair," and despite Faramir being a sweetie, there's only one thing that needs to be said about this entire section of the story:
Frodo’s face was peaceful, the marks of fear and care had left it; but it looked old, old and beautiful, as if the chiselling of the shaping years was now revealed in

I enjoy identifying plants by their leaves. Show me a peach tree leaf and I know right away what it's to. ;P but I'm partially insane.

That - identifying plants based on leaves or other attributes - wa something I really liked learning in my botany class. Most of our field trips involved going to different places and identifying native vs. not-native plants (among other science-class things like filling charts, etc.) and stuff, and what made them unique.
If only I could remember most of it. >_>

I totally Know That Feel about plants, too. I'm okay with the ones in my area (for example, the most common around here is oak, so I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE not knowing what an oak tree is), but once I leave the state I'm completely lost. When my sisters lived in California they found out they were allergic to eucalyptus...I have no idea what those trees even look like, let alone that we even HAD them in the U.S.

Pffff, comments about Sam's cooking are perfectly fine. I lied up there: his argument with Gollum about what you should do with coneys - and taters, mmmm taters - is my favorite part of this section. XD Also, beer, although I've never tasted it and now never will, because it has gluten. ALAS.
Hahahah, oaks. Man. It's embarrassing. But I know tons of different kinds of cactus and cholla and palm trees? :D? (Well, maybe not tons, but I used to be pretty good about them. Now, ten years later, maybe not so much.)

I'm right there with you not knowing how to identify plants. I've never had an interest in learning that stuff. When I was much younger my grandmother pointed out a tree in my father's yard and asked me "what's that?" I remember thinking she was crazy. "That's a tree, grandma." I got punished for that and for years never understood why. XD
