Actually, Scotland was described in I think the 15th Century by a Papal envoy as "the arsehole of the world". So there you go. Although, he was complimenting something at the same time, so it was more like "And so they did this very well, which was surprising, given that in other respects Scotland is the arsehole of the world". Swings and roundabouts, eh?
