So I'm really frikking annoyed right now at my living circumstances. When I first moved into this apartment, which is more like a triplex (small building, so I have a unit of neighbors upstairs and a unit across from me), the other two units were each occupied by working professionals. In other words, people who were very good about keeping noise ( Read more... )

Good to know--if it gets bad enough, I will call the police. Thanks for the tip on the fan--ended up saving me, as I turned it on and managed to sleep only because of it. I'm also considering earplugs for sure too. How did you not end up throttling your neighbors in undergrad?!? My second year, my dorm room either had really thin walls, or my next-door neighbor had hearing issues. Either way, after a few months we had developed this routine of me knocking on her door and her going straight to her stereo to turn it down, no words exchanged.

You should move up to our neighbourhood (around Glencairn subway station) - it would cost you about $100 for a metropass each month, since I think it may be too far to bike it (though it might not be), but the area is wonderfully quiet. The most noise we get is when our landlords have a party in the garden, sitting around talking in Italian over wine and food. Quite a few people around here let out their basements as apartments, and most are retired Italians.

That sounds so lovely--encountering conversation in Italian over food and wine as the most offensive noise disturbances. I am actually toying with the possibility of moving, but for now it would have to be right around U of T--but your area sounds so lovely though. If proximity to school weren't the issue, I'd totally look into it.

Yeah, for real, do call the police on them. I do it to our neighbors all the time, and actually they've gotten a lot better and I haven't had to do it in months. But it's satisfying because you can always hear the police come and scream at them. Very, very satisfying. And I'm told that if the police have to keep coming to the same place, the repeat offenders have to pay a fine.

In most cases, it's the owner of the house who has to pay any fines, which means that partying renters tend to get kicked out pretty fast if you do this. :D

Which is perhaps the most satisfying part of all. :)

Helllll yeah I'll call the police on them if they keep doing it! And the repeat fine/pushing offending renter out incentive totally makes the deal sweeter hahaha! Filed for future reference >:)
