Your grandmother sounds like a real kick in the pants. I am sorry for your loss. She would have loved to read this. It does seem to be true that by the time we're old enough to hear our grandparents' stories, there no longer with us.
What a wonderful story, and I'm so glad you got to know her as well as you could, given the geography. It's amazing to think you met her at 100, and she still had a lot of kick left! And to live across 3 centuries... that is incredible timing. :)
Yeah, we only met face-to-face three times, including that final time, but those times are very vivid memories for me. I count myself lucky for that. She was an amazing woman.
I remember when the fact that she lived across three centuries really hit me. I was in college and doing a report on family history and I wrote down her birth and death dates. I was surprised when it hit me that I hadn't realized it sooner.

And yes, it does seem as though by the time we're ready to learn those lessons, the people who teach them are no longer with us.
