I have two feelings about what was "said about you" there.
1) He could have said that...and it could be true, which might be. But dont you think he should take the liberty to actually TELL YOU HIMSELF?! HMM?!..sorry...but he should have you KNOW this at all times...regardless of any excuses that might come from his mouth.
or
2) He never said it...and it's his friend helping him out in playing you. Sad...but it could be also true.
