But epilogue compliant means they won't end up together at the end, right?

Not at all! Actually, most of the time (like 99% of the time) it means that they married their wives, had their children, but somewhere along they way they got divorced/be widowed and then they got together.

I used to think Epilogue compliant fics meant that they were either cheating their wives with each other (which, granted, sometimes it's the case) or like you, they didn't end up together, but I was pleasantly surprised that most of the time it just means it's post epilogue that they actually reconnect and get together. :)

I hope you give Epilogue compliant fics a chance, they are awesome, too.
