Thoughts on Kirk/Spock, fic requests, and picspam!

What I want from fic--and you
I think the single-greatest thing about the new Star Trek movie is how it's injected new life into the fandom, and how that's not at all isolated to the actors/characters from the new film. I have talked to so many people who've gotten into TOS via the film, and thus far my interactions in fandom have been really ( Read more... )

That is a fabulous, fabulous picspam. Seriously, I've gone through it at least 4 times already. Also, you used my gif! That makes me happy.

Personally, I like happy from my fic. I just really want to believe that they get to be happy.

I do have one fic to recommend, though. The Force of Habit

Haha, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it and I love your gif!

I know what you mean. But there's a LOT of happyfic. I like psychology, too. And I like Issues.

Thanks for the rec! I'll definitely give it a look. And like I said, it's not like I object to all happiness. If it's well-written, especially.

ooh! I just read a fic (well, sort of; I'm in the middle of it--it's 92,000 words long!) and it's not Kirk/Spock, but it deals with the just the psychological issues you're talking about and the troubles of a relationship between a Vulcan and a human.

The pairing is, oddly enough, Bones and an original character. But the story is incredible.

Trust of a Bonding if you're interested.

Did I mention it's 92,000 words long?

Whoa. Sounds intriguing, though! Thanks!

Dude. I do not have the patience to write fic that long.

Also, you NEED to read THIS. I dunno where you're going to obtain it, but it's a must, the absolute stone classic of K/S.

And the only book to ever repeatedly make me miss my stop on the subway.

I know, wasn't he? It's almost a crime. Which is funny, because the pretty ones don't usually get me. The pretty ones who are also ridiculous? Yes.

And wow. I guess you can get it at the K/S Zine Library, though it'll cost. Thanks for the heads up, though. Sounds intriguing.

Ooooh, you should join, and borrow "Courts of Honor", "The Price & The Prize" and "Nightvisions" and "Broken Images".

I think I might! It's great something like that even exists. Fandom is great. Thanks so much for the recs!

Hi there!

Thanks for the recs. Because like I said, I really *don't* mind happily-ever-after, as long as there's complexity in the journey. It's not the ending that matters to me so much as the quality of the issues being addressed. I'll definitely check both of those out.

Ooh, you got people to leave you recs. I'm marking all of them.

Awesome picspam. Jesus.

I found this comm: crackenterprise. Every day they do recs for a different "genre": one day each for gen, het, slash, art, TOS!fic, something, and something. The recs are compiled by a group of 20, so it's not like I know and respect the reccers. But there is *some* filter, you know what I mean?

I haven't really tried them yet because...I don't think I want to read that much fic, actually. Well I do but I'm not, because I keep getting ideas and starting to write new things. Most of them are things I'm hoping to put in one big thing, so I guess I'm not COMPLETELY unproductive.

I'm glad you did this post!

Yeah, someone just mentioned that community. Looks potentially useful.

I know what you mean about reading. Though sometimes I can't write, but I can sneak a little reading in. But I'm having some trouble with the conflict between not wanting to write something that's totally been done, and not watching to inundate my brain with other peoples' ideas so as not to produce any of my own. Or inadvertently copy them without the reassurance that I just couldn't have.

It's definitely easier when fanfic cliches have all been established so you can just write against them.

Hmm, yeah, that's a thought. Though there's SO MUCH. I need, like, a site with the tropes/cliches are all listed.
