Ill-advised post-TOS posting

May 23, 2009 21:21

Guys, I have a problem. It's not even an interesting/original problem. It might even be sort of shameful in its very pedestrianness. But I find myself unable to think about anything but Captain Kirk right now. The Shatner One. Which means I should probably go to sleep or something. Or stop watching two episodes a day? Never that ( Read more... )

Kirk transcends shamefulness. I believe I mentioned that.

I do believe fic might emerge that is applicable to both the new movie and TOS. That would be cool. But I think my slashygenhet fic will be (if I ever write it which I seriously doubt just knowing me, you know how it is) read as movie-ish, because it will have movie-details, but I want it to be TOS in feel, if that makes any sense. But it would be sad to not have TOS fans read it because there's movie in there. I'm not saying you wouldn't, but it's something your post made me think about, because of course it's always about me.

I wish I could rec you stuff! I've liked some stuff I've read these days but of course it is all new movie and also I probably like it because I'll read ANYTHING when I first get into a pairing (should've seen me in my early B/A days; I was INSANE).

Most of all YOU SHOULD WRITE FIC. I can't even get over how awesome that would be. It would be awesome like Kirk is awesome!

Well, I should say this about new!Trek fic. I think I could totally read it, in the same way that I watched the film. I'm bringing my own stuff to it, and I was interested in the relationships in the film, so I'm sure I'd enjoy it and you're free to rec me that stuff.

It's just that when I think about wanting to read fic, specifically, it's the sort of thing I mentioned. TOS is full of lovely kinks, and so while I'm not at all saying new Trek won't supply awesome fic, which it already has, it may not supply the sort of Kirk/Kirk action (among other things) I'm hoping for. At least, not yet.

You can see my dilemma!

Most of all YOU SHOULD WRITE FIC. I can't even get over how awesome that would be. It would be awesome like Kirk is awesome!

Okay and that is way too muh faith in me. J, I don't even know how to write fic that's not Phantom! It's like I am broken! I don't even know how to start!

You start with the crack. Seriously. But I can't really help you because crack is ALWAYS popping into my head and there are always a bunch of ideas I get. But it sounds like you already have ideas! Write Kirk/Kirk! Write . . . okay, what I wish had happened in that last ep was that Kirk's "planting" of attitude in his robot clone had been more subtle, and that Spock had taken longer to figure it out.

Like, what if Kirk knew he couldn't manipulate how the robot clone got made just by saying, "Stay out of my business halfbreed!" a couple times, but by actually thinking/feeling/focussing on things about Spock that do annoy him. Troubles with Spock he actually does have, frustrations that he doesn't say aloud or would never admit to, because they're friends and those little things aren't important. But what if Kirk used that to focus on to make the robot clone ( ... )

You are too, too good to me. Now I almost don't need it written! Haha!

Here's one thing: I'm sure that's been written already. You know? I'm sure it all has. That is not a reason not to write something. But there's History I'm not aware of. And all that.

God that's a good idea. Because also, you see, there's the Spock/thinking machine parallel that can be worked with, which is obvious maybe but could stand to be so. And just as evil!Kirk is also part of Kirk, wouldn't robot!Kirk have, in large part, Kirk's qualities? He's got his humor, and his dazzle, and there's no reason to think he wouldn't be troubled by some of the stuff he's saying and (not)feeling.

Gah. See, even thinking about it my head starts whining "it's too hard" when really it isn't at all.

Oh and I sort of expected there to be TOS-based new!Trek fanfic. It's the natural progression. I should probably go through that meme but see above re: intimidation. I haven't even done anything since you went to bed. Nothing.

There's nothing shameful about character!love of any kind. And I concur that you should definitely write it. You should share your love and skills with those of us less able to create fic. I would totally read it.

And though I can hardly make better recommendations than those already listed, but I did want to plant two seeds.

Kirk/Orson
Kirk/Lawrence

And bonus for the addition of Spock. ;)

Have fun!

Hahaha. I don't know about Lawrence, but Kirk/Orson would EXPLODE IN AWESOME. All three of us have been obsessed with the Welles/Shatner combination for some time now.

Aww...I'm late to the party then. Sorry. But still, I thought it would work.

No, no, it's inspiring. I mean, that you came up with that too.

I first suspected it when I watched this clip which I've probably shown you before, where Orson is totally chewing the scenery for all he's worth and it's BRILLIANT. He reminded me of Shatner and we started trying to come up with something they might have been in together. It's a shame it never happened.

I just don't know what they'd do.

If you were here I'd drag out my box o'K/S 'zines from the 1970s-80s. Alas, you cannot read them through the interwebs.

Oh, yes, I think that is exactly the sort of thing I need. But, indeed, alas!

For all I know, some of this classic fic may be ON the web somewhere. Anyway, I'm sure there's plenty of good Kirk!fic available.

I've found some classic zine stuff, and I'm sure there's tons of good Kirk!fic out there. The problem is how to find it starting from zero. But I will.
