crisis of confidence

Okay, maybe not a crisis.

I haven't been writing at all, though. And while I know that part of this is laziness/distraction/reluctance on some psychological level, some of it is that when I sit down, nothing happens. I was upset over not working on my book, and decided that it would be beneficial for me to start writing something every day. What ( Read more... )

I'm only good for commiseration on this. I like the idea of going back to writing the book, though. That is my academic projection, I'm sure.

You have inspired me to set aside time tomorrow for writing, though. Thanks!

Um, you're welcome!

Yeah, I'm not expecting any real solutions. This is something I have to work out; I'm just hoping that by occasionally discussing it, I'll come to some solution more quickly.

Most of the time, when I write fic, it's because I have a need to say "this one thing"--to expose the "lie" of the E/C happy-ever-after trope, to redeem Carlotta a bit, to see if I can get Erik in bed with the Persian. So if I don't have that little deed to accomplish, I'm not necessarily passionate. I know I want to write, I have a several things started, but once I write the part I "know" is supposed to be there, lately, I have no idea where to go. Some of the stuff that's incomplete I really, really love, but can't figure out how to make it presentable. Or wrap it up.

The problem with writing advice--or motivational advice--is that everyone is confident about the form that has worked for them, and suspicious of other form. Mr. D cannot, I think, fully appreciate that what works for him may not work for me and we've run into that before. Then again, it's possible that there's some advice that would work, and which I haven't followed well enough to know.

And it helps to talk about it, if nothing else... :)
