That LibraryThing book meme thing

Oct 02, 2007 14:55

What's interesting to me is how the list is such a mish-mash of awesome and utter crap.

These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing's users (as of today). As usual, bold what you have read, italicise what you started but didn't finish, and strike through what you couldn't stand. And post in your journal.

i only did the bold thing )

books, memes

Haha. Okay, I'll put the drill up there. It's okay, though.

But dude... have you really read all but two? Or is your coding messed up?

Les Miserable, Anansi Boys, American Gods, Neverwhere, A Clockwork Orange (great fun in that it was a book that actually challenged me emotionally and somewhat mentally).

Cool; I haven't read any of those but Les Mis. I'll have to try them.

I fell off the earth again. Hi.

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell
Anna Karenina
Crime and punishment - Everyone must read at least one Dostoevsky in their lives. But I recommend "The Idiot". It's awesome.
Catch-22
100 of solitude - You absolutely must read this, K.
Wuthering Heights
The Silmarillion - and the above are miserably boring and also wonderfully edifying.
Life of Pi - actually I listened to the booktape. HIGHLY recommended.
The name of the rose
Don Quixote - I need to read this.
Moby Dick - On shelf, waiting to be read.
Ulysses - I also need to manage to just finish ONE Joyce.
Madame Bovary - SOO boring.
The Odyssey - Fagles Homer rocks my socks.
Pride and Prejudice
Jane Eyre
A Tale of Two Cities - I need to read more Dickens.
The Brothers Karamazov - Gah, which reminds me I have to go finish it because it's awesome.
Guns, Germs, and Steel: the fates of human societies
War and Peace - need to read to round out my Russian classics.
Vanity Fair
The Time Traveler's Wife - I couldn't stand this. It's what I hate about ( ... )

I think I have it somewhere. Oh, no, that's Love in the Time of Cholera. Those are like the two best titles ever.

I need to read more Dickens.

I haven't read any.

The Time Traveler's Wife - I couldn't stand this. It's what I hate about contemporary novels these days.

Oh, I enjoyed this. What about it did you hate?

Middlesex - Was it good? I've been thinking about it.

Decent, but I'm suspicious that's just because I'm hungry for transfic. Or something. It could have been juicier.

Wicked - Still think you should see Wicked. Skip the book, though

Funny; I'd usually expect the opposite.

Brave new world - Been meaning to read this forever.

The first half is awesome. I like the "world building" better than his actual plot.

Dracula - Again, forever. Did you like it? I just like Gary Oldman with his John Lennon glasses.

Eh... It's more important than good, in my opinion. For what it spawned.

But Gary Oldman is tops.

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay - on Amazon Wish ( ... )
