He’s not my boyfriend

“Your boyfriend’s here.” Baekhyun snickers and Jongdae gives him a look.

“He’s not my boyfriend.” He hisses back for what seems like the millionth time. Baekhyun rolls his eyes; a slight smirk is playing at his lips. “Whatever you say Jonggie.” He says and goes back to packing up.

Jongdae’s look turns into a glare, but he can’t hold it for long and decides to pout instead because he is not amused. No one ever believes him when he says that Yixing isn’t his boyfriend, though he thinks it would probably help if he stopped blushing when he said the word boyfriend.

Baekhyun snorts when he sees Jongdae and Jongdae thinks that maybe he should also stop making stupid faces.

“See you tonight?” Baekhyun asks. Jongdae has to think about that one.

“I don’t know. Probably not…” His gaze travels outside, to the hallway. Class is over and most of the students have already left. Yixing is standing just outside the door. Jongdae smiles when he sees Yixing, waving back when the older boy looks his way.

Baekhyun outright laughs. Not your boyfriend you say, his expression says, but Jongdae chooses to ignore him and together, they leave the classroom.

Baekhyun has OHC, an online gaming club Jongdae knows he loathes, but he continues to go. Jongdae didn’t understand why at first, when Baekhyun told him he had joined. He’s known Baekhyun for forever-they met in the last year of middle school and became closer after realizing they were both going to the same high school-and could personally testify against any and all of Baekhyun’s blasphemous claims of loving WoW (possibly the only MMO he knows of). As far as Jongdae knows, the two are not compatible.

What-or who are compatible are Baekhyun and Chanyeol. The two were becoming very close lately. They aren’t in the same major, but make sure to take the general studies classes together whenever they can. Jongdae often wonders if he should feel jealous or angry that Chanyeol is invading his best friend territory, but somehow, he doesn’t think that’s Chanyeol goal.

Baekhyun is already a forth of the way down the hall when he says:

“Don’t forget, Friday!”

“I know, I know. Friday.”

“Good. It’s gotta be perfect.”

“I know Baek. I won’t forget.”

“Okay. Just remember to-”

“I got it. I won’t forget. I’ll go pick it up this afternoon.” Jongdae assures him, waving goodbye. He knows how much of a big deal this thing is to Baekhyun. He smiles and secretly thinks it’s cute that Baekhyun would suffer sitting a room full of gaming nerds for Chanyeol.

“Oh! And bring your boy-”

“Bye Baek!” Jongdae yells before Baekhyun can finish his sentence and huffs as Baekhyun leaves, laughing.

“What’s on Friday?” Yixing asks, both amused and confused at Jongdae’s reaction. He adjusts the strap of his guitar and holds Jongdae’s books while the younger boy zips up his coat.

“Chanyeol’s congratulations party.”

They leave the building and Jongdae explains how Baekhyun’s throwing a surprise party for Chanyeol who had recently landed a modeling jig for the university. His face could now be seen on both the front page and the student connection’s page of the university website. It wasn’t such a big deal expect in the eyes of their little group (especially Byun Baekhyun’s).

“It’s only a small part too.” Jongdae chuckles. He holds his thumb and index finger up, trying not to shrink the already nonexistent space between them. “But Baekhyun’s totally into it. He was more excited when we heard Chanyeol was chosen than Chanyeol was.”

A gust of wind blows their way and Jongdae uses it as an excuse to move closer to Yixing. Silently rejoicing when Yixing puts his arms around him, Jongdae continues with his story. They make their way to Koffee Kat, a quiet little café/restaurant on campus.

It was January, almost February and Jongdae and Yixing found themselves indoors most of the time. Gone are the lazy afternoons chilling outside in the campus courtyards and squares. (At least for now and Jongdae hopes MAJS will return next semester.) The winter semester is almost half way through, along with Jongdae’s sophomore year in University.

“You don’t mind going downtown after, do you?” He asks as an afterthought. “I have to get a cake.”

Yixing says “no” he doesn’t mind and Jongdae asks, with his cheeks tinted pink, if Yixing would like to go to the party with him, maybe. He doesn’t ask him to be his date because it’s not that kind of party, he tells himself.

The possibility of Yixing saying “no” to him doesn’t even cross his mind. It feels like second nature to have Yixing with him every other day, when neither of them are working or have any other pressing engagements. Yixing is his Monday and Wednesday afternoons and evenings, evenings only on Fridays and all day most Sundays.

As Jongdae’s already told Baekhyun (as well as Kris, Minseok, Chanyeol, Kyungsoo, Joonmyun, Sehun, and Kai) Yixing is not his boyfriend.

So what if Jongdae chose his classes this semester based on how much time he would get to spend with Yixing? (He’s still hasn’t gotten over the fact that World History was only offered Fridays at 4.) And so what if he’s only taking Chinese again this semester because he wants to understand what Yixing says when he speaks to his friends in Mandarin, and because it’s just another reason to spend time with Yixing, and because Yixing always complements Jongdae when he gets something right, and because when he doesn’t get something right Yixing would always go over it with him slowly (very slowly) and he can listen to Yixing’s sexy Chinese speaking voice and watch as his lips purse, forming strange words, and when his tongue…

“Earth to Jongdaeeeeeeeee~” Yixing pinches his cheeks, stretching them out, though he looks more amused than actually mad.

“Owowow-Yixing-ow~”

“Pay more attention next time.” Yixing sticks his tongue out and lets go.

“I was though…” He rubs his cheeks, and puffs them out. “Just not to what you were saying…” He mutters the last part.

“What?” Yixing pinches one of his cheeks and Jongdae whines:

“Nothing.” They both laugh.

Yixing orders for both of them and an hour and a half passes with them eating and Yixing helping Jongdae do homework.

“Yixing!” Jongdae looks up from his workbook. Two of Yixing’s friends are walking up to their table and Jongdae recognizes them instantly. The taller one, Tao, is a freshie and the other one, Luhan, is a junior. Jongdae’s seen both of them more than a couple of times. They’re also Kris’s friends (he knows everyone) and Jongdae’s hung out with them a couple times.

“Thought I’d find you here.” Luhan sounds pissed and Jongdae leans back in his chair. “” Luhan says in rapid Chinese. Yixing just looks at him, confused and Jongdae cringes because Luhan looks even more pissed then before.

“The project? ” Luhan ruffles Yixing’s hair.

“” He tries to swat Luhan’s hands away but the other is just too fast.

“Hi Jongdae.” Tao waves at him. Jongdae waves back.

Tao is a teddy bear, even if he looks slightly like a serial killer. The kid has dark circles under his eyes (courtesy of Comp 101 and Korean Studies 1) and has this whole fuck off aura going for him (one of the reasons why Jongdae was frightened of him the first time they met).

“Hey. What’s up?”

“Nothing” He shrugs, “Just getting a bite to eat.” And then remembering something Tao asks “Oh. Do you like movies? I have tickets to that one movie Sunday.” Jongdae nods and Tao takes two tickets out of his pockets.

“A s-se- gave them to me. I have um… A workbench?” Tao says in mixed Korean and Mandarin. Jongdae just smiles and accepts the tickets. Tao is from China (where in China, Jongdae could not say) and had not yet mastered Korean.

“He means a workshop.” Luhan clarifies.

“Oh!” That made much more sense. “With Mr. Lee again?”

Mr. Lee was one of the Korean language professors. He tutored Tao and a few other Korean learning students at the university and was the advisor of the Korean language workshops the university hosted. “I’ll treat you to ice cream if you get through all the stations okay?”

“Really?” Tao’s face lit up. The boy was a sucker for ice cream. “I’ll work…work really h-hard then. Thanks gege.” Jongdae smiles, though even if Tao doesn’t get through all the stations at the workshop, Jongdae will probably treat him to ice cream anyway. He is only one year older than the kid, but Jongdae can’t help but want to act like a hyung around him. Tao is the kind of kid he wants to spoil.

“Good Luck okay?”

“Okay ge.”

Turning back to Yixing, Luhan says, “”

Jongdae is all smiles even though it’s pretty obvious he doesn’t really understand what’s going on at times. The boy’s one of the more good looking people on campus and it makes it cuter that he hasn’t realized it yet (though Luhan doubts he ever will). He has a good personality, and if he wasn’t already painfully attached to Yixing (and Luhan still doesn’t understand how that happened), Luhan wouldn’t mind taking him to a small dark corner of the dorms and teaching him a few things.

Tao seemed to like him anyway.

“ Luhan ruffles Yixing’s hair again. ”

“Bye Jongdae-ge. Good luck.” Tao giggles.

“You’re gonna need it with him.” Luhan makes a face at Yixing and pets Jongdae’s head. “See you later.”

Good luck with what? Need what? He thinks, but smiles and waves all the same. When Luhan and Tao leave Jongdae turns to Yixing.

“What was tha…”

“Don’t ask.” Yixing just shakes his head, exasperated. Jongdae turns back to his workbook, extra determined. The more he studies the sooner he can understand Yixing and Luhan’s secret conversations.

The winds are strong when they head out and that’s the excuse Jongdae to walk just a little closer to Yixing. It’s just past 6:30 when they make it to the cake shop. It’s a small corner shop that Jongdae likes to get all his cakes from. He’s not really a sweets person, but he could eat their cupcakes for forever and he enjoys the little cartoon characters that come on each cake.

“Welcome.” The lady behind the counter calls.

Jongdae looks through the cakes on display. There are so many different kinds and it’s hard to choose just one.

“Aren’t these cute?” He points to one of colorful cupcakes. Yixing nods but for the most part he just stays back and out of the way.

In the end he chooses a simple white vanilla cake with strawberries on top. He asks the clerk if she could write “Congratulations Chanyeol” on it in big blue letters. She says yes she can and takes the cake from the display case, setting it off to the side.

“Will that be all?” she asks and Jongdae looks longingly at the cupcakes on the shelf above. He knows he shouldn’t, he doesn’t have enough money, but…

“Can we also get one and that one too?” The colorful cupcakes are set aside with the cake and Jongdae glances at Yixing.

“I don’t have that much money left…”

“I picked them. I’ll pay.”

“Really? That’s so-” He starts but then a thought comes to him, “You were planning on sharing those right?” He asks, half joking and half not. Those cupcakes look really good.

“Weren’t you the one who wanted them in the first place?” Yixing lifts an eyebrow and Jongdae smiles, wide. He gets up and gives Yixing a hug.

“Thank you so much hyung. You’re the best.” He lets go, but doesn’t really separate from him. He leans into Yixing and the older boy puts his arm around him (for the second time that day, but who’s counting?) while they wait for the cake to be wrapped.

“Oh, what a cute couple. How long have you been going out?” The lady behind the counter asks offhandedly as she rings them up. For a while Jongdae’s confused. He thinks she’s talking to some other couple but they’re the only ones in the shop at the moment.

“Oh, we’re not…”

“He’s not my boyfriend.” Yixing corrects, his voice comes out smooth, unlike Jongdae’s flustered one.

“Ah, yeah…” He breathes out, suddenly not feeling so well.

“Oh really?” She gasps, horrified, “Oh, I’m so sorry. It’s just that…well…” Jongdae laughs it off even though he doesn’t feel like laughing at the moment.

“It’s fine. It’s fine.” But something tells him it’s not really.

Why can’t the sun not rise today?

He’s not my boyfriend.

Jongdae knows it’s true but it still hurts a little. He’s been telling Baekhyun, Kris, Kyungsoo and the rest exactly the same thing, but that doesn’t mean part of him (all of him) doesn’t want it to be true.

That night, last semester, under Willow in the square, he hoped that maybe Yixing liked him too and that maybe, possibly, Yixing would ask him out sooner or later and they would be-actually be boyfriends, but reality isn’t made up of wishes and hopes.

He knows he should be glad of what they have now, it’s an easy friendship. Yixing doesn’t pressure him into doing anything and he likes some of the same things Jongdae does. They always laugh and have a good time when they’re together. But Jongdae can’t stop himself from wanting more-more than being just friends, even more than hugging and kissing, more than just sex-not that they’re having sex. He wants Yixing. All of him, and not just on Mondays and Wednesdays and Fridays and maybe Sundays.

It’s hard some days, being with him and just wanting. And sometimes-sometimes, he thinks it’s not just him who wants more. Sometimes the other boy gets this look on his face, different from when he’s totally spacing out (Jongdae calls it his ‘Spacy Face’). He has this face, when he looks at Jongdae and he doesn’t think Jongdae’s looking, when his expression goes all soft and sad and serious and he’s not smiling. Jongdae likes this face because Yixing only looks at him and in his eyes-in Yixing’s eyes-there’s an intense desire in them and then blink! It’s gone and Jongdae thinks that it’s all just his imagination. Him, projecting something he wants to see.

“So are you ever planning on getting out of bed today?” Minseok lifts an eyebrow, not that Jongdae can see it. He’s buried under his bed sheets and comforter and refuses to come out and officially wake up. Today is Thursday morning.

“Nu-uh. Why can’t the birds just shut up and the sun just not raise? Just this once?” He mutters. Why can’t the world be as miserable as he is for once?

“You sure? Cause Joonmyun’s gonna be here any minute.” There was a knock at the door. “See?” Minseok gets up to open the door.

The dorm room isn’t that big so Jongdae can hear Minseok perfectly when he tells Joonmyun that he’s not feeling well and that he thinks something happened with his boyfriend.

“Not my boyfriend!” Jongdae yells and rolls over to face the wall.

“Right…”

“I thought things were going great with your…umm, yeah.” Joonmyun sits on the edge of his bed. “I saw you two yesterday. You didn’t seem to be having any problems. You didn’t argue did you?” Great, Jongdae thinks, here comes appa Jongmyun. “Because the only way to get though an argument is to sit down together and talk about your feelings.”

“We didn’t fight hyung.” Comes Jongdae’s muffled response.

“He didn’t hurt you did he?” Minseok cracks his knuckles, “because I could go get Kris and we could-”

“Hyung.” Jongdae throws the covers back. “He didn’t hurt me and we didn’t fight and I’m not a girl…I-I-I just…” He just wasn’t Yixing’s boyfriend. Jongdae thinks and wraps the comforter around himself.

“Well if nothing’s wrong, you better get dressed. Come on, Kyungsoo’s waiting for us.” Jongdae groans. It was way too early for calculus. Not the first time since the start of the year Jongdae thinks that joining the Mathletes wasn’t his best idea. He hates morning practices, which is the reason Joonmyun and Kyungsoo pick him up. They alternate days and today it is Joonmyun’s turn.

YOLO?

When the lights turn on the group yells “Congratulations Park Chanyeol!” There’s streamers and noise poppers and all other surprise party essentials and Chanyeol just goggles at them, shocked, before laughing. He hugs Baekhyun, who is standing right beside him, because who else is crazy enough to throw a party for something as small as a having his picture displayed on the school website?

The party goes well. They call it a party, but it’s just an excuse for all of them to get together and have cake and fool around. They start out playing appropriate party games like Pictionary, which Kai and Sehun turn that into how many times can we draw male genitalia and have it still be funny (the answer is 3), Twister, which turns into a groping contest and finally musical chairs, which somehow…let’s just leave it there.

Jongdae has second thoughts about inviting Yixing. He looks like he’s having fun and Jongdae loves his friends, but they’re not the most mature group of people in the world. He’s just thankful that Joonmyun and Kris are there to keep everyone, mostly Kai and Sehun, under control. Kyungsoo and Minseok aren’t as bad. They actually act like normal people. Baekhyun, who has hearts in his eyes, and Chanyeol stick together for most of the party. This doesn’t really surprise Jongdae and he wonders offhandedly if Baek’s already confessed yet.

Baekhyun puts a movie on, possibly the easiest way to make all of them shut up and sit still. Everyone claims their spots in the room, most of them end up on he floor. Jongdae plants himself on the couch, with Yixing sitting next to him. At first, he keeps his distance; getting close to the other boy only makes him hurt more. He’s been by Yixing’s side all night long, but had refrained from touching him or getting too close. Twenty minutes into the party, Jongdae thinks that Yixing might suspect something is up, but the older boy doesn’t say anything so neither does he.

When the lights dim Yixing moves closer, resting his head on Jongdae’s shoulder and asks:

“What’s wrong with you today? Are you not feeling well?” He stares straight at Jongdae and Jongdae doesn’t want to lie out loud so he nods.

“You sure?”

“Yeah” (so much for not lying out loud) he says softly and leans into Yixing.

“Where did your not boyfriend go?” Baekhyun slumps down on the couch next to him. It’s late and almost everyone’s gone home. It’s just Jongdae, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, Kris and Yixing left. The party was held in Kris’s apartment, which Baekhyun has borrowed for the night so he doesn’t think Baekhyun or Chanyeol (from the looks of things) will be leaving soon. Kris said he is probably going to spend the night at Joonmyun’s apartment a couple doors down.

“Making a call? Talking to Kris?” Either one. Jongdae hadn’t really been paying attention. All that he knew was that Yixing was doing something outside.

Not boyfriend…not…

“Baek.” Jongdae turns to his best friend, burying his face into the crook of Baekhyun’s neck.

“Hmm?” Baekhyun puts his arms around him.

“You and Chanyeol…” Baekhyun laughs.

“Not yet. Not like you and Yixing, lover boy.” Jongdae groans and Baekhyun pushes him away just enough to get a good look at him. “What’s wrong? You’ve been acting weird all night. Something happened with Yixing didn’t it?” Jongdae wonders how Baekhyun knows, but then again, it probably isn’t that hard to figure out. Baekhyun is his best friend and has a talent for unearthing Jongdae’s most personal secrets from the deepest darkest depths of his soul so Jongdae skips the beat around and just tells him.

He tells him what happened Wednesday evening at the cake shop and the not-so-recent developments in his feeling regarding his relationship with Yixing.

“And what if…”

“What if what? Spit it out.”

“Whatifhedoesn’tlikeme?”

“…what?-no wait. Doesn’t like you?” Baekhyun doesn’t make him repeat it and Jongdae’s thankful (He knew they were best friends for a reason). “Jongdae, I might actually have to slap you for that.”

“Yeah, okay. But what if Baek? He hasn’t said anything. He hasn’t done anything. We just hang out” He almost wishes Yixing was one of those bad boys in those TV drama. That Yixing would just pin him down and kiss the hell out of him or something.

“Jongdae…” Baekhyun cupped his cheeks, his expression turning serious, “You know what you need? Yolo.”

“Yolo? What the fuck?”

“Yolo” Baekhyun repeats, “You only. Live. Once.” He pauses and scans the room to make sure they are the only ones in the room, then leans in and whispers, “If you really want him to be yours you have to take the lead. Make him see what you want. I was talking about this with one of my seniors in D’n’N and ohmygod Jongdae, he was having the same problem with his girlfriend and you know what he did? He…”

Baekhyun recounts the astonishing story of CSW and KMA’s (Baekhyun keeps their names secret to prevent Jongdae from freaking out when seeing them in the halls) struggle for intimacy and CSW’s daring actions to prevent their relationship from falling into the dreaded friend zone.

“No” Jongdae gasps halfway through, when Baekhyun gets to an especially scandalous part.

“Yes.”

“But” He pauses, mostly for dramatic effect, “How did it fit?” Baekhyun gives him a wide-eyed look.

“To this day, I don’t think he even knows.” Baekhyun says and continues with the story.

“…and that’s why he only wears blue sweaters.” Baekhyun finishes.

“No…really?” Jongdae has his hand covering his mouth, goggling Baekhyun who nods.

“True story.” It only takes a second before they’re both cracking up.

“Jongdae?”

“Baekhyun?” Jongdae and Baekhyun jump, shocked. They topple off the couch and land in a tangled mess on the floor.

“Yixing…”

“Chanyeol…hey…”

Yixing and Chanyeol just stare at them, glance at each other and then back to them, both boys telepathically wondering why their…their-whatevers had been crouched on the couch so close together and speaking in nothing but whispers. It wasn’t a secret that Baekhyun and Jongdae were close, but neither Yixing nor Chanyeol particularly liked seeing them in such close proximity. It wasn’t that they were jealous (who said anything about jealousy?), but they couldn’t help but wonder why both boys were blushing furiously.

“Ready to go?” Yixing breaks the silence. He’s looking in Jongdae’s direction but not directly at him.

“Yeah, yeah” Jongdae says flustered. He and Baekhyun pick themselves off the floor. “I’m ready.” He nods to Yixing who’s moving towards to coat closet. When Chanyeol’s attention is focused on something else Baekhyun pulls Jongdae arms and whispers:

“Don’t forget. Yolo.”

Yixing returns to the living room with Jongdae’s coat.

Just ask him out. Baekhyun mouths when Yixing isn’t looking and Jongdae nods.

They reach the SK House in record time, Jongdae thinks. It’s not that Kris’s apartment building is that far from campus, but Jongdae thought he would have at least have had time to think up a plan in the allotted time. It doesn’t help, though, that all that was going through his head for the past fifteen minutes was ‘omgomgomgomg’ and ‘whatamIgonnado whatamIgonnado whatamIgonnado whatamIgonnado’. Lost in his own world, he didn’t notice it when they reached the campus or that Yixing, too, was off in his own little world.

“So…” Jongdae says when they stop outside his dorm room.

“Yeah…”

“Um…ah, so-so” Yolo, he repeats to himself. Just do it. Just ask. is all that goes through his head when he says in rapid Korean “So remember when  Tao gave me those tickets to that movie on Sunday-well I looked it up and I actually want to see it so I was wondering if you would go…with me….”

Yixing blinks, trying to make sense of it all.

“Uh, sure.” He finally answers. Going to the movies was no big deal so why did Jongdae look so flustered? Was he sick? Yixing brings his hand up to cup the side of Jongdae’s cheek. Jongdae shakes his head, not quite able to look at him.

“Not-not like what we usually do, but like a real, proper da...te.” The word gets stuck in his throat and comes out as two instead of one and he wonders what the fuck is he doing? Why was he acting like such a girl about this. It was only ask-asking Yixing out and did he want Yixing to be his b-boy-boy-god. Even in his mind he couldn’t say it.

“Wait look at me.” Yixing says. He lifts Jongdae’s head so he has no choice but to look at him. “Say that again? Please? But slower this time.” He adds, smiling and Jongdae knows that he Yixing already knows. All at once, he’s angry and embarrassed and was Yixing just teasing him all this time? He wants to go, starts to push away but Yixing says:

“No, come on. Please? Say it again?” He leans in. He’s looking at Jongdae with that face and Jongdae wants to hate him but how do you hate someone you’re completely and utterly in love with? All the angry fades away as fast as it came and Jongdae sighs.

“I…I want, I wanted to-us to” He just…“Can you just kiss me now?”

Yixing blinks and breathes out a laugh that tickles Jongdae’s cheeks. He leans in closer and Jongdae meets him a third of the way.

(“I’ve been wanting to do that for a long time now.” Yixing murmurs on his lips.

“Than why didn’t you?”

“Wu Fan-ge said not to rush you.”

“Kris…” Jongdae was going to have to talk to him.

“Don’t. I’ll pick you up on Sunday then?” Yixing kisses him once, twice and Jongdae nods. Kris would have to wait.

“You better bring a lot of money though, ‘cause I’m still mad at you.”)

Missed you & Fireworks

A/N: (not revised ver. revised) so I wrote this...iek if this counts as a sequel. they're so different. but idc. It's basically more fluff though anyway.
So about YOLO. There’s this guy in my class that keeps saying it. AP Calc final and exam? YOLO. AP Lit exam? Physics hw? YOLO! (I didn’t know what it was until like last month when I asked him) It’s kinda funny and cute at the same time that he says it for everything and I just had to include it. AND then there’s emmyxogast and stupidrhapsody with their trolling. @_@.
thanks for all the comments on the last one =) and srry for any and all OOCness.
