Puerto Penasco, Mexico - 3:45am Saturday
Rick leaned against his palm, watching Mel in the little light coming in through the window. It was far too early to be awake, but his system was trained for Chicago time, not Mexico His eyes trailed over every inch of skin and he smiled as a sigh escaped as she rolled toward him. "Morning," he whispered. Mel hummed as she reached around his torso and pulled against him. Rick leaned back on the pillow and put his arms around her, smiling as his eyes closed.
"I have an idea," he said, a moment later. Mel hummed again. "What would you say to skipping outta here, today, and we could go see the Grand Canyon?" Mel huffed into his chest and moved her hand to his waist.
"You just want to go to McDonalds," she teased and poked his side.
"No," Rick said through a chuckle and leaned down to kiss her head. "I want to know what the Hell they're saying on SportsCenter." He started laughing as soon as she did. Mel pulled away from him and propped herself up, then traced a line up his chest with one finger. She let out a dramatic sigh and looked from her hand to him.
"All right," she said with a shrug. "On one condition," she added, as soon as his grin appeared.
"Name it."
"Chargers poncho," she said simply, directly. They'd seen it at the shop a few blocks from the hotel, two days ago, shoved in with all the other sports teams.
Rick's eyes narrowed. "That was forty dollars!" he told her with a gasp. Of course, they both knew that he'd buy it for her, even if it cost four hundred, simply because she'd asked for it.
"So? It's twenty-five to see a big-ass hole in the ground," Mel countered, smiling as she leaned forward and trailed her hand back down his chest. It took everything she had not to smile as Rick tried to not react to her touch. It was torture, since she knew he was ticklish, and she really did want to see the Grand Canyon.
"I don't need the donkey tour, hon," Rick told her, shaking his head. His hand covered hers and he rolled sideways, trapping her beneath him.
Mel raised an eyebrow as he grinned. "What tour? That's just to get in."
"Bullshit," Rick said with a wide smile. When her expression didn't change, Rick shook his head. "It's a National Park. They're free." That got a snort out of Mel.
"You wanna bet?" she asked, raising her eyebrow again, as her hands rested on Rick's hips.
"Yes," Rick nodded and pushed himself up to sit on her knees. "Terms."
"Shower," Mel replied instantly. The bet was the last thing on her mind, really; she just wanted to get Rick into that shower.
Rick made a face and shook his head. "What kind of bet is that?"
"One that gets me in the shower with you. Duh." Rick did have to agree, there. He'd been contemplating a shower, as well. He frowned as Mel rolled out from underneath him and climbed out of bed.
"Wait," he started turning to watch her start to pull clean clothes out of the suitcase. "How am I supposed to pay up on the poncho if we get up there and it is twenty-five, which it isn't," he quickly added, pointing to her. "Can't get back down here before the flight and we’d have to sit here for another five hours, just waiting for them to open."
Rick's eyes narrowed as Mel continued to pull items out of the suitcase. It was her avoidance of looking at him, however, that he questioned. "Emmaline," he asked slowly, and put one foot on the floor. Mel winced and turned just enough to see his other foot hit the floor.
"Patrick?" she replied, as indifferently as she could manage. Her eyes closes as his arms went around her and pulled her back against his chest. She tried not to smile, from his hold or the fact that she knew she'd been busted, but Rick Harper knew exactly which spot on her neck to kiss and she let out a groan.
"When did you buy it?" he whispered against her neck. Mel sucked in a breath and closed her eyes, thankful he was holding on to her. She'd probably be on the floor, otherwise.
"Yesterday," she breathed and opened her eyes as he spun her around and picked her up.
"So sure you'll win the bet?" he asked in a low growl. Mel smiled and nodded before leaning forward to kiss him. Rick was actually torn between taking her back to bed or heading for the shower, though the shower would take care of two items - both of which got him closer to the Grand Canyon. As he started walking toward the bathroom, Rick pulled back and gave Mel a look.
"What do I get if I win the bet?" Mel responded simply by raising an eyebrow and smiling.
Grand Canyon, Arizona - 3:08pm Saturday
"Well, son of a..." Rick breathed as they neared the guard gate at the park's entrance. Mel didn't even look up from the map as she held up a twenty and a five.
