Trey watched Dree for the third time since he'd come home from work. She was still sitting in the same position, still hunched over the same book, and still nursing the same cup of water. "Aud," he called, though he didn't move. "Aud," he repeated, just a bit louder.
"Hmm?" she half-answered, blinking slightly as her eyelids were starting to droop. Trey pushed up and moved over to the table. Reaching around her, Trey slipped a piece of paper into the book, to hold her place, then closed the book on her. "Hey," she started to argue.
Trey moved his hands to her shoulders and pressed a kiss to the top of her head. "No more reading, General." He let go over her and gripped the back of the chair, then pulled it - and her - away from the table. "Out of the chair, General," he ordered.
Dree turned toward him to argue, but the position she'd been in won out and there was a distinct pop. He eyes rolled slightly and Dree closed her eyes. "See?" Trey said with the hint of a smile, "even your body says it's time to move." Stepping back, Trey held out his hands to help her up.
"C'mere, Aud," he said as he helped her stand. Pushing on her back, Trey led her toward the couch and pointed for her to turn toward the armrest. Dree didn't argue - mostly because she was too tired to - and she waited for Trey to get himself situated next to her before sitting back.
The pressure of his fingers against the muscles in her neck and back was excruciating, but she managed to not make any sounds of discomfort as he kneaded at the tense, locked muscles. "Damn, Aud," he said after a few minutes. "What happened to doctor's orders to relax?" he asked, knowing full well that she had a terrible habit of not following any orders.
One of the twinges shot through her so sharply that Dree actually jerked sideways. Before she could cry out in pain, Trey had pulled her against him and his hand rested on her chest, so that she would breathe with him. Her head finally fell back against his shoulder as she breathed through the sharp pain.
"You're done tonight, Aud," Trey whispered in her ear. Dree continued to draw slow, easy breaths, willing herself to relax in her husband's arms. He pressed a kiss to the back of her neck. "Bath?" he asked, pressing another kiss to her hair.
Her response was a simple humming sound.
Trey smiled and pushed her up just enough so that he could move off the couch. "Up," he ordered a moment later, reaching for Dree's wrists. She winced as she stood, and leaned against Trey.
"Sitting was better," she grumbled, then leaned against him with a pout.
"I know, Aud. But you'll get to sit in a minute. Nice hot bath, with those green fizz-things you like." He kissed her temple and started leading her toward the bedroom. "This is why you don't overdo the work when you're supposed to be on break," he chided. Once they reached the bedroom, he made quick work of getting the tub filling, then turned his focus to getting his wife out of her clothes.
It might have been more romantic if she wasn't half a step from passing out where she stood.
As Trey led her toward the tub, Dree turned and pulled at his collar. "Bath," she repeated, which translated into 'take off your clothes and get in here with me'. Trey smirked and nodded. His clothes were off in just a moment, with a practiced ease. Climbing into the steaming water, Trey helped Dree into the tub, then smiled as she settled against him with a tired sigh.
"Close your eyes and relax," he ordered, rubbing a light circle against her lower back, where there was a permanent discomfort from an extremely old injury. Dree let out a slow breath, as the hot water was both horribly uncomfortable and immediately soothing to her old bones and ancient muscles.
It was times like these she hated being immortal while being eternally grateful for whatever force put Trey in this lifetime.
The only thing that would make it better would be if their wife was home...
