Oh, this was so lovely and heartbreaking and beautiful all at once. I was so terrified you'd break them up at the end, but guh, they are just lovely together.

Loved the story and the way you really feel Sirius' pained confusion about his family. And how Remus sticks with him through it, and endures his mothers nattering and ... yeah, just lovely. :D

The writing in this is so elegant and rich.

Things like this: It's an incredible sight to witness-the sudden shift of deference. Confident Regulus reduced to staring at his shoes, spiteful Sirius inquiring after his mother's health, hot-tempered Walburga scrutinizing in cold silence. As if they all know just how big their personalities are, they try to reign in the most unstable elements to keep the room from crashing around them.

I was totally immersed in the claustrophobic and alien atmosphere of Grimmauld Place. I could feel every emotion that Remus and Sirius were going through.

Remus' guilt and doubts: Remus feels his heart pang and sink in his chest. No, it's not Sirius' fault. He was going to be the dutiful son, going to be the heir to the House of Black. He had promised himself to his bride, went through with the engagement. But Remus had forced his hand, had refused to be the other woman when in reality there were probably worse things in the world to be than Sirius Black's mistress.Wow, that is a lot of pressure and ( ... )

I absolutely adore this piece. It's evident how much thought you put into it. You took something that JKR never really elaborated on - the inner workings of pure-blood families - and made them believable. You fleshed it out so well and it's incredibly realistic to how things work in real-life nobility. At least, I think it is. If it isn't, you fooled me. But more than that, I love how delicately you wrote Sirius and his entire reactions to everything. Too often you see Sirius' relationship with his parents as something black and white. But you've shown that Walburga does care for Sirius in her own, twisted and mad way. You've shown the reality of a child striving to gain acceptance he can never earn, and blaming himself for it. You've shown the hurt and turmoil that comes with that "Yes, my parents are horrible, yes, I hate my family, but they are still my family" sentiment ( ... )

Wow. This was... crikey, this was the perfect fic. You wrote the entire Black family flawlessly. The way that people outside the family can't understand the dynamic--why don't you tell her that, Sirius, indeed! And yet you can show those dynamics to us without saying it outright, just showing their interactions.... so good. Having Remus as the outside observer who is helpless to do anything more than offer Sirius a safe place to return--this fic resonates with me a whole lot, to be honest! Really, really well written.

I really love stories involving Sirius and his duties as heir and then you added in a very loving relationship between him and Remus and gah this was just lovely. Well done, really.
