I like that you tell this from both Regulus and Sirius' POVs. I especially like Sirius thoughts and reactions to when Regulus is sorted into Slytherin, and this line The word takes a while to register because the hat in Sirius’ mind has said otherwise.

I liked the way you used the passage of time and took the important moments in their lives and put them in. I kind of would have liked to see to Sirius' death too, because while I was reading, I realized that Regulus turns on Voldemort but Sirius never gets to learn that. Sadly ironic, yes? Anyways, good job!

This was gorgeous and yet, very sad. You really captured the heart of the situation, I think.

More importantly, BOTH Regulus and Sirius were exceedingly sympathetic and that is altogether too rare in fan fic.

I loved Regulus' slow realization as to the crux of the problem: Regulus doesn’t know how to respond. He’s never noticed Sirius so genuinely upset by his mother before. Until now, he’s been under the impression that she doesn’t faze Sirius, that he’s able to just shake it off.

But the way his brother is trembling now, wringing his own hands, he sees that he’s been wrong; Sirius is only good at hiding his hurt.
That felt so very real and, as the story went on, took on a whole new light. He clearly still loves his brother and is somehow puzzled by the whole division thing. (Hell, even the Mary McDonald incident shows his strange innocence.) That worked very well.

And Sirius, poor passionate, deeply feeling Sirius: He’d never admit to his desperation, his devastation, then and there. How much he was hanging onto, relying on, ( ... )

I love the dynamic that those two have in this story - it's really interesting and complex. I like how underneath all the confusion and betrayal, they still have that brotherly bond that could never go away. The ending was especially poignant - I felt rather like Sirius in that moment. Amazing job!

this was so well done. the title says it all -- you get a really vivid sense of decay, in their relationship and otherwise, slow and tripping and inevitable over the course of their entire lives together. i loved the style and juxtaposition of perspectives -- gotta echo what brighty said, the vignettes were so effective. really neat piece.
