Beta-reading your work!

Oct 24, 2010 08:58

One guideline that will be common to all our fests is the requirement that stories are beta-read. This is to help ensure a basic level of story quality that we believe isn't just for the benefit our readers, but also our contributors.

That said, we realise that finding a beta can be difficult, and we'd like to facilitate that! So if you'd like to help out your fellow participants by beta reading / art critiquing, please sign up using the form below.

Name:
Email:
Are you over 18?:
Are you willing to beta art pieces?:
What story length are you willing to beta? (under 2000 words, 2000-5000 words, up to 10,000 words, above 10,000, etc)
How long will you need to beta a 2,000 word piece, on average? (basically, talk us through your turnover rate, if you will!)
Character/shipping preferences:
What are you willing to beta: (genres, ratings, etc.)
What are you unwilling to beta: (squicks, ratings, etc.)
Specialties: (brit-picking, characterization, grammar, art, etc.)
Anything else you'd like to add: (availability, do you need a notice, how would you like to be contacted, etc.)

Writers, please feel free to use this post to get in touch with beta readers who you feel will be able help you with your story/artwork - keeping their requests about squicks, preferences and such in mind, of course.

This post will be 'valid' for the October Marauding Mishaps & Happenings and December's Twelve Days of Christmas fests as well as our November-February Mischief Managed fest.

Though the mods will not be involved in this process any further, we do ask that you remain civil and courteous to one another. We also request that betas and writers do not sign up, or contact a beta reader respectively, unless they are serious about working with a fellow author/beta-reader. It would be unfair to waste anyone's time, and we'd like to avoid misunderstandings as much as possible! Thank you. :)
