So we had fun last night working on a homework project for Connor. The teacher sent home this piece of posterboard and we had to trace everyone's hands and put their names under their hand. Then put the family name at the top & decorate it. So I got out the stickers and Connor had fun putting stickers on, but I made him tell me why each sticker ( Read more... )

We froze our tomatoes. I made a few jars of salsa to put in the freezer as well. It's faster, and easier...especially if you have access to a large deep freeze.
Also wound up donating some to one of the local shelters, as we did with the numerous radishes we had earlier in the summer.

Oooh great idea on the freezing! We have a deep freeze out back without too much in it. Thanks so much!

Not a problem. Ball (the jar people) actually make freezer containers.. (as does Tupperware, no sales pressure lol) You can find the Ball containers at your local grocery store or Walmart. Just be sure to watch the Fill line. I have a couple that were a little too full, and had to scrub maters out of the freezer. Not spiffy, I assure you. lol

Canning tomatoes is easy. You only have to water bath them like for jam. I am going to have a few tomatoes myself. I'm glad that school is going so well for Connor. And it's got to be nice to have some one on one time with Ian.

Really? Hm...looks like I'm going to have more options than I thought..guess I'll see how many I'll get and maybe I'll freeze some, can some, and make some ketchup!

re the tomatoes, you could do worse than make tomato ketchup / sauce (don't know what you yanks call the stuff you put on burgers!) from them if you've got enough. I can let you have a recipe if you want, it's really easy and easily as good as shop bought, plus as you make it yourself you know what's going into it.
Sounds like Ian and you are having a lot of fun, and Connor's enjoying school.

I thought Americans called it ketchup, but then I started worrying in case it was an Indian name that we imported to Britain in the days of the Raj, wondered if it made its way to the other side of the pond (after all, some did and some didn't). And then I realised that the word I was thinking of was "chutney", a good Indian word... and one I think is now used the world around. So ketchup it is. I'll stop blathering and get the recipe to you later today :-)
